I am not trying to start a D vs B arguement

Ive come to a crossroad where I can pretty much pick two different setups for next season. Keep in mind I want this to be a daily driver that is reliable yet still a 'quick' car that is able to hit 13's on street tires. I'm working with about $4000(CDN).

1. I currently have a D16Z6. I was thinking of a mild build(OEM rebuild with forged pistons and rods) and turbo'ing it. I could get the turbo kit VERY cheap (I have a friend that works at a wreckers, and I can fab my own manifold and whatnot) and get it tuned. Maybe run 10PSI daily and 14ish PSI to have some fun here and there.

2. B20/VTEC (all motor). I could get the motor(wrecker hookup) for a laughable 100$ and then just buy a short geared tranny (B16 ~750$), a VTEC head (~$600). Mill the head to get a nice 11:1 compression ratio, throw a nice set of cams on it, mild oem rebuild with ARP hardware, and get it tuned.

What would you pick, and why? Basically it comes down to:

Reliability
$ Per HP
Longevity of the motor
Potential
Power (of course )

 

well the b20/vtec sounds very tempting especially for the deal you would be able to get. But its only going to be as relieable as you build it.
As long as you change the internals and head studs and build it correctly it will be reliable and very torquey

 

From that deal, I'd get the b20, but rather than a vtec head, I'd grab a t3/t04 and boost that sucka.

Im definatly not boosting the B20. From what I hear you cannot run much boost on the motor. I'd rather just have a nice torquey N/A motor with the B20 IMO.
