3rd gear crunch spoils fun with B16/Y1 CRX conversion...what cure?
Has anyone else had the problem with a newly installed JDM B16/Y1 and found that the 3rd gear crunches on fast changes?
It seems OK when dawdling about town, but when you give the vtec a workout, the gear crunches every time changing fast at the higher revs. 1st and 2nd seem OK.
The oil I have used is Shell Helix 15W50 semi-syn. (warm climate 10-40 degrees C).
Any suggestions on oil?
Or do I have to get a rebuild?
What chance do I have of getting the importer (Rolin Imports) to fix on warranty?
This is my first day out since the conversion, and everything else is going as sweet as though it was a bought one....I just love the way this car runs hard....but don't want to spoil the fun...............please help?

I think u bought a tranny with defective synchro's. Crunching noise is the synchro's not beeing able to do their job. Most of the time a rebuild is not far away.

Exactly. If you know of someone who can get the parts for you, make sure you replace the synchros, and the synchro hubs as well. Might as well check your third gear set while you're at it.
I've had this problem since the day after my swap. I tried GM synchromesh fluid, and also Redline MTL - but neither helped. I am using Honda MTF right now.
All you can do in the meantime is just take your time shifting.

Either that or it's time to go Hydro tranny.

probably because they are newer, and not as rare.
