type r or gs-r
ok heres my situation, im either thinking of building up a jdm b18c meaning im going to fully built the bottom end with pistons, rods, resleeve and bore the block to 85mm, and also have it balanced, flywheel, and clutch. as for the head, im probably just going to install from itr cams since im putting so much money into the block first. on the otherhand, get a jdm type r and leave the block to way it is which is stock. im probably just going to a clutch and a flywheel. i havent gotten an idea what imma do the head due to the type r costing so much. so here's my question, is building the gs-r block a better idea even though the head just have itr cams or is getting a type r motor a better idea due to the fact that the type r has other goodies that the b18c doesnt come with? any opinions will be greatly appreciated....
Are you planning to primarily drag race? If that's the case you might as well use the gs-r and not spend the extra cash on the R. If you are planning on getting into autocross, go with the ITR.
i wouldnt really say autocrossing, just a daily driven street car. its just that i can get a jdm gs-r for around $2800 and built the motor rather than just spending $4200-4400 just for a stock type r which only have better head and tranny. i just need some opinions on this matter...
why would you get a jdm gsr engine? there is only a very slight difference in compression and your considering doing work to it anyways. Look on ebay....you can get a gsr engine for about $1,000.00.
Street Car huh?
GSR+Turbo is what I would do, if you had the extra funds, I would go JDM98spec ITR tranny
Wasn't this covered already? a Turbo'ed GSR or a builtup GSR like you described will perform better than a stock ITR.

It depends, I have raced a few built gsr's dragging and auto-crossing at some tracks near my house. I have never lost to a GSR. If you have the money to throw on a turbo go with the gsr. If you want a car that is fast all around when considering a daily driver go with the Type R, just because of its stock capabilities and tuning capabilities.
