sup everyone......check it out. I have a 95' honda civic lx and just the other day i got into overheating problems. I put coolant in and it still was overheating. So....i went and got a new radiator because the old one had a crack after the first two overheats. I installed the new one in.....new hoses and everything. My first question is ......What is the valve that the upper radiator hose connects to that has a air bleeder bolt? Well dont laugh but i need to know the seriousness of this because when i put the new hose on it i had to unscrew it a lil bit. Well doing that i happened to brake that part (what a dummy!)where the bolt screws down into the housing. What would be the best way to get that fixed or get a new part? And as for the overheating......could it be the thermostat?

 

for the overheating, i would replace the thermostat w/ one from honda to see if that will eliminate that problem

 

its even worst than that?......My friend who worked on ma car couldnt get the housing loose. LOL.....yeah its old and i just got it

i changed the radiator and it was still overheatin! I bought a thermostat today...only one big problem....HE BROKE THE 10MM BLEEDER SCREW ON THA HOUSING! I am screwed or what?

 

Your not screwed you'll probably want to get a new one to bleed the air out of the thermostat housing though. When removing that type of screw you should use a flare-nut wrench (just a tip).

you will have to get a new hose housing if you cracked it....or you could try to jb weld it...that should hold it, you just won't be able to bleed out air from that bleeder

 

Just curious (because I'm kinda new to Honda engines), can't you just bleed the cooling system through the radiator cap like most cars? I see the bleed screw, but it seems to be at about the same height as the cap on the radiator. If that's the case, I'd leave the rest of the screw in place, and just bleed it that way. And don't forget to turn on the heat when you're doing it.

Also, did you check the temperature of the inlet and outlet hoses on the radiator? If your thermostat is bad, it'll probably fail in the open position, thus letting coolant through.

Does the fan on the radiator turn on and off?

 

i always bleed through rad cap...never use the bleeder....

The only reason that the bleeder nipple is there is to bleed the air from the top of the engines! That's it. I can't claim that the makers of Honda in the 90's where right, I just know why it's there.

 

one sign of a bad thermostat is if you turn on your heat and its blowing cold air that means the thermostat has took a **** on you
