Default would auto benefit from LS/VTEC?

If i have a auto LS, and convert it to LS/VTEC.. would i get 170hp and more torque from it? it doesn't benefit me because auto don't take advantages of high revs

Don't forget that you would need an ECU capable of shiting the tranny as well as operating VTEC.

Yes it would benifit you a littel bit. But its not worth it with an auto tranny, the gearing blows. Yes you will still make 170HP, but you need to understnad the differances in transmissions. 5 Speeds have 4 foreward gears that you can tear some *** in plus an overdrive for cruising. WHat you have is 3 gears plus overdrive. Autos have lower final drive ratios (Bad on a B18) and the gears are set further apart. On a 5 speed you can hold your revs up in the second and third VTEC stages, and when you shift your rpms stay higher. See where im getting at? Oh and Autos weigh more and have many more moving parts, witch eats up power too.
So to answer your question yes you will have 170 hp (depending on ecu setup) but the tranny is gonna eat up power and not put the power to the ground nearly as effictively as a 5 speed can.

yea, automatics suffer an estimated 20-25percent of driveline loss...where as most manuals have about 10-15percent driveline loss

you'll still have 170hp, but hp to the wheels will be substainally less

maybe he meant VTEC w/ long intake runners between 4400-5750 rpm and VTEC w/ short intake runners at 5750+ rpm?

In my opinion, getting a 5-speed swap versus getting an LS/Vtec, the swap would be faster.

Based on my experience....
When I had my auto LS, I couldn't even beat a manual EX with the i/h/e that I had. When I swapped to a 5-speed with the same mods, I dropped a full second in the quarter mile. A FULL SECOND. That is a damn lot. Usually takes lots of money in mods to drop a full second.

And like a few people said, you'd have to find a JDM GSR-automatic ECU to shift the transmission.

u will make 170hp, but u will output less torque to the wheel than a factory gsr. your auto tranny has more delicate parts than a manual tranny. u have 4 gears and not 5. there are no auto ECU to operate a vtec head so you will have to use your stock LS ecu with a VAFC. thats the only thing i can think of. btw, LS block isnt made for higher revs, so bring it to vtec is like your motor on steriods. in other words, your engine wont last.

who the **** is saying he will get 170 hp with ls/vtec?It all depends on how you build the engine.Ya i would say a stock b18 block and stock b16 would be 170 too the flywheel, but no one ever does this.Majority of the time it will be higher compression pistons, cams, intake manifold, etc.Im planning too make around 200 too the wheels in my ls vtec spending under 3k including the price of the car!

Vtec noise? Haha. Tell him to throw a short ram intake on there. It'll be louder than that "vtec noise". Haha.
