Default Whining noise coming from belts...

Well...i was driving around today (1993 Accord) and i hit a little bump going about 5mph...and i revved up my motor...and it started to make a whining noise..i pull over on the side of the road to see where its coming from and it sounds like its coming from the alt or the ps belt im not sure. When im driving it and i give it more gas it gets louder...it almost sounds like that noise your speakers make...kinda high pitch but not..what do you guys think it is? Im thinking about sparying some wd40 on the belts or maybe one of the belts is loose/tight. But i dont know.

If it is the whining sound I am thinking of it could be P/S fluid. Check your level and make sure it didn't get mesed up or anything.

well i just went to spary wd40 on the belts and it wasnt that...also the motor was still cold and the sound was louder?! and today when the motor was hot from driving it didnt sound as loud?...so im guessing one of the belts has to be loose/tight.

That noise normally means your belts are loose. The noise is probaly loud and gets louder as you dirve it is your timeing belt or accesorie belt (ALTENATOR). If the noise ges louder if you turn the whell it is your power steering belt. Another thing i wouldn't spray anything on my belts especially WD40 that it can cause your belt to slip and throw your timing off. it can also it throught the belt. that is why if you ever get a oil leak and the oil gets on the belt the replace the belt for you. so just tighten up your belts and you will be fine.

Spray water on each belt and see when the noise goes away. Most of the time it's the drivebelt. Replace it with a new one if necessary. Don't just tighten it up.

If it is a continues whining while the engine is running, it is most likely your Power Steering Belt. I replaced all my belt on my car recently and it whined when I let the engine rev higher. Sure enough, it was alt. belt. Also when you have your engine running, pop the hood and watch the belt while you have a friend rev the engine. A loose belt will viberate really bad and it's kinda hard to miss it. Refer to your Haynes manual for specific intruction to tighting up the belts.

A/C Compressor doesn't make that noise(That I know of), but the A/C Compressor and Alt. are on the same belt...
