stupid kids tried to steal/vandalize my integ
So i come out from the mall and there's security and police surrounding my car. I hurry to find out what happened (i thought my car got hit or something). There were these 2 about 19yr old guys sitting on the curb. So i asked the security what happened and they told me these guys were using a shaved key to break into hondas around the parking lot. My car was next, and right before they approached it, security came and caught em.
Is it possible to get in to a car that easy by shaving the key?
well anyways,
for the security doing there job.

sounds like they cut their own keys. The procedure involves taking a blank key, inserting and wiggling it inside the keyhole to create scratches, marking where the tumblers are onto the key. the key is then pulled out and cut according to the scratches. BAM! There goes the loser theif with your car.

not that easy. Just because the wafers make scratches on your blank key, this doesn't tell you how deep to cut each tooth. This is a common misconception, I'm not a lock smith, but I do have some experiance working with both locks and keys, and I've explorered many methods of lock picking, cutting your own key doesn't work, it would take MUCH more time to cut a key based on "scratches" on a blank than it would to just use a rake, or a snake pick with a presure sensative tention wrench, or better yet, a spring loaded center punch on the rear quarter window and reach in and hit the unlock button. When my teg got stolen, I was so stuck on how they did it, I had to find a junk honda and try it. It was my first time and I was able to gain entry to the car, and pop the column and turn the ignition switch to on all within about 2.5 min.
It's VERY easy to use the "intrusive method" to steal a honda, not going to give details, but anyone who knows anything about a car and has taken a steering column apart could figure it out. My best advise is to disable the computer with a hidden "kill switch" and use a club, these things will take much longer to get around and more than likely a would be theif will move along to the next sucker who doesn't have a club.. just remember, if they want it, they'll get it! don't let it leave your sight for too long.
Good luck

you need to get other methods to protect your car. I won't say in details how the keys work or how to make them (people on this forum get really mad about that and its understandable). It is NOT unique to Hondas and its been around for generations. I've read about it in autosound and security MAGAZINES when I was a teenager so its not a super secret method of theives. But just keep in mind that your keys and lock do nothing. Design your security system so that you can give the thief YOUR car key and they still won't be able to take it.
dont take ur honda/acura to a mall or any place where u leave ur car in eyes of thieves... buy a beater or get a ride.... malls/movies and other places like this = thief city
i work at best buy and there's this alarm system, its called the Viper 160XV sumtin like that, well it has the little remote (keyless entry) and the remote vibrates weneva someone is touching the car as long as ur within 2 miles of the car..........
i think it either vibrates or you can set it so it beeps if anybody touches ur car.
good stuff

sorry to bust your condom, but everyone know's that, its the pager style alarms. clifford, audiovox, viper.. has them.. but it depends on where you mount the antenna and whats in your way, it could be 2 miles on open road, but the signal has to travel through walls, glass, people.. blah blah blah
