Default buying a used civic

i'm looking to get into import tuning and plan to buy a used civic. was looking at a 95 ex but wanted some advice as to which civic i should buy. not looking to spend much more than 6k on initial purchase so i have about 3k a year to put into it. plan on going turbo with it. is this a good model to go with or is there a better one to be looking at? my ultimate goal is to get into the low 12's.

I have a 1998 Civic Coupe for sale. 140k on the Odometer but the stock civic EX motor (which is in it now) has 70k on it. It also has an Integra Type R 5 lug suspension on it. Asking $5000. If you want to go turbo and need a platform to go on, I have a motor for that too.

Fully built GSR
CP Pistons, Cunningham Rods, Darton Sleeves. Built by Darren at R&D Dyno in Gardena. Same person that built the AEM RWD 9 second civic.

This thing will take 20 PSI all day long. Complete swap. Asking $5000. Shipping is separate. We can talk about that later. For pictures, please send me an E-mail at EKDAVE19@aol.com

very good platform to start with..lots of parts and readily available swaps for it without too much modification...i have the same car and i'm planning to swap in a b18c5 in the very near future.

if you want light ..then go with a hatch like some people have said already

good luck

if your looking for a track car, get a 92-95 CX, they are the lightest civics made in those years, and certainly lighter than a ek coupe/hatch/sedan, and you can find one for under 1000$ with a blown motor with a decent body, then put the rest of your money into suspension and engine, i spent 1500$ on my cx, then another 800 on a ls swap, and my car feels nice and fast for now, but someday i think the boost bug is gonna bite

UNFORTUNATELY, I NEED TO BUY A FUNCTIONING CAR. SELLING MY MKIV JETTA GLX (WHICH WOULD BE SWEET TO TUNE BUT WAY TOO EXPENSIVE) SO I NEED SOMETHING THAT I CAN DRIVE TO/FROM WORK. CAN TAKE WEEKENDS OFF TO WORK ON IT AND WHAT NOT BUT BUYING A CAR WITH BLOWN ENGINE IS NOT GONNA WORK

I acknowledge that relplying to myself is lame (disclaimer) OK...... if i am going to buy a car to swap the engine i will spend much less and get a car with a a **** load of miles on it. If this is the case i'm looking for advice as to which base model i should go with and what engine i should swap it with. Fortunately i have access to a shop that only charges $3/hour and has lifts and all tools etc so labor isn;t an issue (espically since i have friends who know a hell of a lot more about this stuff than i do). so....... what whould be a good base to go off of and a good engine to swap into it (keep in mind my initial invfestment budget of 6K which would include car and engine in this case)

I would go with the ex because it comes with power everything. Which do like better coupes or hatchies?

would have to go with coupe, don't like the looks of hatchbacks eventhough they may be lighter. have no problem guttin the coupe for weight reduction, wife may have issues with it but of well...... she can kiss the ***, this is my car not hers

Then the 95 ex coupe would be a perfect fit for you.

an engine? or what? if you wanna get like an engine, get a b18c, they bolt right in and theyre pretty much the fastest out there. for turbo i hear b18c1 is the best, so if you want turbo, go with that

i heard B18B1 responds to boost better, but i mean to each his own, and if your gonna get a coupe, then get a dx coupe, since your gonna get rid of the power **** anyways, and it would be cheaper on insurance, in case you go the route to insure

everyones answer to a mod, "slam it", slamming is actually BAD for a car, as it decreases handling capabilities and makes it shitty for everyday driving, get springs that dont drop it too much, maybe a 440F/550R springrates with adjustable shocks(like Tom/B18C5EH2)
