How often do you use nitrous, what size shot? Any problems?
Ok, I am running a b16a in my 88 dx. Not many mods, flywheel, clutch, intake and exhaust mainly. I am looking at adding a dry nitrous kit just for fun. I am looking at going with 75 shot. I dont plan on using it excessivily, less than 3 or 4 times a week or so, probably less. My friend blew his b16, but he would use the nitrous ALOT, and from what I have read that is whare problems will come in. Has anyone had problems running a 75 shot with stock internals only a few times a week?

you dont use a bottle every 2 days.
Thats $50 of nitrous, easy 3/4 tank of gas and a disgusting ammount of wear on your engine, if the car is daily driven and stock I dont believe it
I however run a 65 shot dry with no fuel upgrades other than a pg7 ecu, use it maybe 3 times a week, little over a bottle a month
I will always have nitrous

so what is it like when you hit the Nitrous?
I know this is gonna sound weird but the only time i have ever seen someone shoot of the NAWZZZ was on Fast and Furious
...
So before i go invest $500-600 into my car i kinda want to know what its like. I'd probably use it maybe once a week

i had a 55jet in my d16a6 with a zex dry kit, youll know when it kicks in, its not like fast and furious where everything around you instantly becomes a blur, but it makes you go. I "chipped" one off my valves with that set up, now since i put the head back on its turbo time
Yeah its not like that, I just launch, wind out first to 7200, shift into second, everythings good, throw the switch, you can defientely still feel a kick in the *** for second but 2nd goes by to fast really to feel anything.
As soon as I shift for 3rd its just awesome, you can just tell your motor picked up 65 ponies to the wheels. Like above said though, it isnt lose all feeling, lose control or whatever, just a kick in the pants and make people spy some taillights
If you do install it, do what I did. I first raced a guy from my work in a 91 Talon Tsi, hes pretty much stock, ran like 14.8 or so. Raced him all motor from a dig, he took me by 2-3 cars, again form a dig but on the bottle, I took him by a bus, easily shaved a second off my 1/4.
Then we went from a 3rd gear roll, I stuck with him and would lose by about 1/2-2 cars depending on who got the jump, nitrous on, just ******* walked him
I suck at launching though, practice makes perfect and dont let Johnny law see you purge or find the bottle, youll be done for. Thats why I opted to stay away form the races tonight
Good luck

cool thanks guys..(girl?) i was pretty good at launching my car before i blew the engine..and with a stock D16a6 i could keep up with a mustang 5.0 until i had to shift to 3rd then it was over with.
I told him a year ago i'd come back and race him and take my money back. I'm sure i can after i'm done with everything i'm in the process of now....
DOHC ZC, Si tranny with an LSD, stage 2 ACT clutch, maybe a supercharger somewhere down the road....and for the time being a Zex kit. I have heard nothing but good about that kit, and i'm kinda interested in trying it out on my car. Thanks again

I have a ZEX kit and ran the 55 shot for over a year with no problems. I ran a 15.8 NA and a 14.5 on the bottle. It's definately fun. It just so happens though I am in the middle of a turbo build and looking to sell my nitrous....
PM me if you are interested.

Problems wont come from using it to much, problems come from bad installs.
I have not personally used it in my cars but I have installed it on a few cars with no problems and I know a good number of people who use it alot(like to the point were its almost to expensive) and no problems but I also know the people who have installed it wrong and popped motors.
I would only fear nitrous if you dont want to do it right.

What makes it so hard/dangerious to hook up? i understand the concept behind Nitrous and i can see how it would create a few problems but not blow an engine from not being hooked up right. maybe i don't want it after all

Its not hard its just alot of people do short cuts, wrong spark plug gaps, wrong plugs, timed wrong, to big of a shot, no fuel upgrades, weak fuel pumps.
Its just like doing anything to your car, there is 2 ways to do something to your car, the right way and the wrong way make your choice.

ok then, i understand what you were saying. All that Nitrous is from my understanding is more pure Oxygen. the air we breath and our engine breath is like 17% pure oxygen..and Nitrous is 23% oxygen..so it burns off more...but you have to have the right fuel mixture or it becomes a cutting torch effect on your pistons. And if the spark plugs arn't gapped right then you don't have correct fire causing more problems.
This is the reason why i like the Zex kit. Its all in one..can't really mess it up...and everything is there.
I wouldn't go with a push-button NOS system because i'd do it wrong i'm sure

75 shot would be pretty much maxing out your injectors. I wouldnt spray any more than a 65 shot with the stock fuel pump/injectors
Youre supposed to retard the timing 2 degrees for a 65, 4 degrees for a 75
I went with a bottle heater/pressure gauge and purge so I can get consistent bottle psi, but Ill be damned if I ever leave that heater on, it gets ******* hot

Anyone care to verify this, I'm speaking from a fuel upgrade standpoint.

It turn's itself off if the bottle gets too hot

Yes it's fine. As long as the motor is a strong running motor to begin with. Stock everything will hold a 50-55 shot easily.
