Should I turbo, supercharger, or go N/A ?? I am not sure...
Well, basically here is the situation. I have a 97, with a 96 OBDI JDM B18C1 that is quite strong. I replaced the motor because I hydrolocked my stock motor. In any case, the car runs strong, then engine is running between 10.3:1 and 10.6:1 compression. It also has 180 hp stock to the crank. Now, this has been told to me, I hav not yet dynoed the car. So far all I really have is Cold air AEM, AEM power pulleys, DC sports header, and a 5zigen fireball exhaust.
I have come to a point where I am trying to figure out what the best road would be to go down from here. I want more power, but do I go with a drag kit? a jackson Racing supercharger? I should I buy cams pistons and all that jazz to go el natur-al ? Can anyone just give me some ideas of what they might do if they were in my shoes? At this juncture I am leaning towards the supercharger or going naturally aspirated, I am not looking to hit 400 horsies, I just want to beat a C5 is all
Go hondapower

Just curious, the NOPI pics show you don't have a JDM......not meaning to flame.
Anywho, this board is very biased toward turbo. I recently turboed my LS and I love it. However, be prepared to spend a lot of money getting out all the quirks. Don't believe it when it says "bolt-on." It almost never is.
I think that's the only thing because aren't superchargers truely bolt-on? And you get much more power with turbo....or rather, the power potential is there. With my car in it's messed up state (running on 3 cylinders), I can run even with my friend's 2001 Stang GT on a highway run. I can't wait until all my cylinders are firing! Woohoo!!
Oh, you're gonna need just about 400hp or more to beat a C5. They're no joke...unless you were joking....heh.

Depends on how much money you want to spend. I'll make a rough list for you"
Turbo>>>>>2700 for kit, another 1000-2000 to make it run effectively>>>>>HP around 240-280 depending on tuning (Always a possibility you could blow up).
Supercharger>>>>>2700 for kit, another 500 bux to have it running effectively>>>>>hp around 200-220 (Less chance of blowing up but HP potential isn't there).
NA>>>>>>Kinda dependon how fast you wanna go it cost anywhere from 1000-4000>>>>>>>hp also depends on how much you spend it could be anywhere from 180-210 (Could end up costing more but nothing like having the bragging rights to destroying another car with FI or a bigger engine'd car with what appears to be a stock motor).
You can slap FI on your car and forget about it and beat the majority of the cars on the street or you can go thru your motor and rebuild it.
A good guy to talk to for NA advice on a GSR is Tony the Tiger (He's from Toronto and his car is serious). He's spent the money and it shows. For FI talk to Dustin about a GSR with FI (Or MarkC). IM them they are pretty helpful. Of course you can talk to Mark about the supercharger.
You should talk to Rob about installation costs as well to get an idea of how much its all the gonna cost, what kind of gains you'll get and how reliable it'll be and then make your decision from there.

The only way it shows JDM is that it doesn't say B18C1 on the block, only B18C,
and I know, turbo is really looking good, but the maintenance of it does not.
I have a friedn with a JRSC on his GSR and I want it to be fast like that with as little modifications or fabrications... I just don't know what the hell to do...
What is your best ET?

thanks man, I know, I really would like to build it naturally aspirated, but, supercharger is looking the easiest route without all the big bux, plus it is a direct bolt-on for the most part
how is the civic running?

logo on the bottom, and it says "Honda", not "Honda Motor Co."Anyway, if you can always go with a cheaper Greddy turbo kit. It has much faster spool up time, but your top end power will be a little lacking. Like someone said, it all depends on what you want to do.
I dont think you really need 400 HP to beat a stock C5 Vette. Especially considering those things are heavy, hell even a Z06 only has 400 HP. If you can drive, id say 300 HP will do the job, especially if its from a roll where RWD traction cant make up the difference. Just my $.02
