A/C compressor blowing fuse
My 96 Prelude keeps blowing the 15a fuse for the AC compressor. The blower runs fine it is just the compressor. I can replace the fuse and about 5 seconds after I push the AC button to turn on the compressor, the fuse blows again. I put a 20a fuse in and it didn't blow and the compressor ran like normal. I took that fuse back out because I do not want to run a higher rated fuse than what is specified. Any ideas of what might cause something like this?
If you ran a 20 amp fuse and it didn't blow, you probably don't have a direct short. That means its probably a deteriorating contact causing more than normal resistance. I'd guess its motor going bad. Try cleaning it and use a 15 amp again. If you just use a 20 now and later, it blow consistenly than its the motor getting even worse.
Thanks for the reply, I think I solved the problem.
The turbo oil return hose shifted and was blocking the AC fan on the radiator. I an hoping the fan motor was overloading the circuit because it could not spin. Guess I will find out after I get the AC charged again. I Had it drained in case I needed to remove the compressor.
