Default Poor Mans Type R...

Ok guys I dont know how familiar you are with this but the other day I was talking to a friend and I told him that I would be having a B17A1 block, with a B16 (99-00Si) Head. He loks at me and says "Wow, poor mans Type R..." What does this mean? I asked another guy about it and he says that its a "poor mans type r" if it were a B18 block?? Has anyone ever heard of this at all??

You have a b17 without a vtec head on it? or did you get just the bottom end?

He said that because its like a type r, but not quite, the only differences i can think of are...

Type R head has mild port and polish, yours doesnt
Type R head has dual valvesprings, your doesnt
Type R block has .1L more displacment than yours
Type R block has slightly higher compression pistons than yours
I think the valves may be bigger, but i cant remember, i dont think so though.

Your making a hybrid motor, the most famous ones for integras are ls/vtecs (b18 block and b17/16 head) And a CRVTEC (b20 block and b17/16 head)

Thats why he is calling it the poor mans tpye R, its almost like the b18c5, but not quite :D

Springs, shocks, & anti-roll bars; & the chassis of a real type R has some strengthened components.

Oh wait... If it's going in a '92 body, that doesn't even make sense.

What makes it almost like a B18C5??? Does it still work on the B17 block though??? Is it going to be a pretty strong motor, powerwise????

poor man's ITR motor = b18c1 gs-r block and crank, ITR pistons, b16a head with ITR cams & intake manifold.

p72 block, pr3 top. ITR internals. port work and aebs or similar replica ITR cast mani, JDM ITR 4-1, b16 trans (i know its not similar, but its better than the gsr's... the ITR has longer gears than a b16, but shorter than a gsr). chipped p28 w/ ITR like program... maybe a bit more aggressive.

thats about as close as you'll get to a real b18cR besides the serial numbers and block stamping. all that will end up costing more to do (if you buy the p72 block, you dont just have one in your gsr that you're trying to convert) than what it would be to buy an ITR swap from one of the jdm junkyards.

b17= pr3 block, not even close to ITR. b17 comes w/ pr3 head, the 99-00 si is a pr3 head. ITR/CTR's come w/ pr3 heads, but they're hand ported and have beefier internals.

so then that would be a Rich man's typeR motor

why not call the b16 swap bored out to 1.8 a poor man's typeR........just wondering?
I mean to qualify as the poor mans version of anything, shouldn't it cost half as much.

Actually the b16 tranny (I'm assuming you mean the usdm Si) has the same gear ratios as the ITR tranny. ITR tranny has LSD, b16 does not.

Why would you want to have a 2.0 litre bottom end that dishes out a whopping 153 ft/lbs of torque!?

Well . . .

Its better if you . .

TSX Block ---high c/r
RSX --- Well balanced head with intake + exhaust valve timing
JDM Integra R --- trans . . "if not the RSX will do"

Put this into a 92 CX hatch and you should hit low 13 with a bad driver
put a 75 shot on and you have 11's

Anyone could make and crotch rocket killer with this combo

Do you believe ? ? ?
