Need help H22 or H23?!?!?!?!?!?
I have been doing a little research and it seems that everyone says that the H23 is better suited for turbo applications. I am planning on buying either one but nee a lot more info on the two and where some good places are to pick either up at a resonable price? I plan on picking one up and putting it in a while and getting a turbo down the road so any suggestions that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I NEED HELP!!.
i would say that if your talking about turbo'ing stock motors the h23 would be better, one because of lower compression, and two being non vtec will save you some time and money on tuning, not having to tune a vtec power band, but if your going to build blocks, the h22 would be better
H23 is much better for boost. Plus overall you'll probably pay a lower price for the engine/tranny/ecu combo if you can find it. H22 is not better for boost for many reasons..
H22:
Higher Compression (bad, you'll have to lower it)
DOHC VTEC (good, till you have to tune it)
2.2L (good, but H23 is 2.3L)
Higher redline
H23:
Lower Compression (good, less work to do)
DOHC (no VTEC but that's only like an extra 20hp and less to tune)
2.3L (some torque)
I believe the H23 has a lower redline than the H22
Also if your gonna build it before you drop it in the parts may be a little cheaper than those for a H22. Also I believe the H23's head flows better.
