Default Smoking like a chimney! Oil Seals Shot. HELP!

Well, Im pretty certain the oil seals on my turbo are shot because everytime I go into boost I smoke like a chimney and while tuning, the O2 had oil residue on it.

I have a couple questions about this.

1. What can I do to lower my oil pressure? In boost Im around 80psi oil pressure. Ive been told that this much pressure is why my seals took a **** on me. This turbo only has maybe 5000miles on it.

2. Has anyone else had an issue like this while using a LoveFab or Full-Race manifold where the oil return is almost level?

3. Most importantly, what kind of costs am I looking at and who can replace the seals in a fair amount of time??

All help is very appreciated

Better do a compression test on your motor first. You might be melting a ring land. Do not try to lower oil pressure to your motor. You should have a restrictor to your turbo oil feed.

yeah you need a brass fitting in the oil feed line, drill a small hole in it for oil to pass through, that will save your next turbo.

this one is most likely shot, once the seals go it can lead to much more dangerous turbo damage, which could be the case if you are saying "every time you go into boost it smokes oil".

Does the turbo also make a funny noise? If not, then it might not be the turbo.

its a possibility it could be the valve seals also...I just replaced all the valve seals on my friends supra...every time the boost kicked in it burnt oil like wendy's burgers! It also had oil all through the intake and exahaust ( I actualy thought it was the turbo myself but a compression and leakdown test proved other wise. good luck!

i say its some kind of leak on ur engine
and not on ur turbo

maybe i am wrong, but when u boost, pressure is created in the turbine and compressor housings, wich will not just allow the oil to just creep, or sweat into the turbo and be burned.... i say it will happen more when not boosting... maybe is something like, oil rings once u get big compression #'s, or valve seals..... u can also diconect the manifold a bit and see if theres oil crap on the exhaust ports......

u can just disconect the downpipe, and if a shitload black **** and oil is on the turbine wheel, then more likely u got a leak on ur turbo, or oil in the compressor housing......

just a tought

precision told me that oil pressure of 80 psi is fine and does NOT need a restrictor. where is the smoke comming from when you drive??? with it being under boost when it happens, im going to say it is NOT your turbo. if it was it would be smoking when your not boosting as well.

It smokes when I am not in boost also... but not nearly as significant. I usually see smoke while not boosting, after Ive just been in boost.

my compression doesnt point at the motor... help

start with a turbo rebuild kit...if that doesnt fix it then try a leak down test. that will tell you if its a valve oil seal, etc. good luck

yes. there basically the same test except the leak down kit is more sensitive to pressure drop. it will show if your valve oil seals, cam seals, piston rings ect. are leaking.

you can also try doing a compression test first thing in the morning while its cold, then drive it for 30 min and do another test, you can compare the two readings to tell the integrity of the rings.

what does a leak down test involve?

same concept of compression...pressurize the cylinder and watch it for leakage by the reading on the gauge. most people use a air compressor. but you can try turning it over a few times. good luck
