My fiance's mom has a '91 accord LX. she was on the freeway today doing about 80 and the engione just shut off on its own. No abnormal sounds, nor visible problems. any ideas?
it started right back up when she got it to the side of the freeway, and then she drove 80 miles home with no problems.
BTW this apparently is the third time it has happened
the wierd thing is, she just told me that not only did the motor shut off, the whole car did. the electronics (dash lights/ turn signals/ radio/etc) all turned off when the key was still on. she then got the car off the freeway, turned the key off, and back on and drove away totally normal. I checked all the grounds they look normal. there was no check codes. Maybe main relay? it's as if there is a big breaker in the car that just shut off and she had to "reset" it. the wieredst part is, I just turned it on, and drove it and it was totally fine.
WTF mate?

sounds like an ignition problem... some accords have/had a recall for that sort of problem, but the 4th gens did not. sounds like you might wanna get that checked out at a dealership. def more than likely an ignition problem.

I'm not about to go to a dealership, I'll pull every piece of wire out of that car and replace it before I go to a dealer. I just figured maybe somebody knew something that happens to these often.
well, ive never run into this problem, so i have no hands on experience with it. just wait till someone has and im sure they will show you the way
I would check the connections from the battery terminals. Fuse block etc
It could be a short in the system causing it to shut off.
My guess is check the battery terminals and the associated wires first

doesn't matter...if that alternator has nothing to recirculate the juice
