My friend got a bizarre engine swap, questions about it
When he bought the car they said that it has a Si engine from HB 89, but we looked on the block and it's written ZC on it. Yesterday I noticed there's and additional port on the left side of the engine, near the intake manifold. On the head it's written SOHC 16V and the holes on the valve cover isn't like it is on ZC's, they are near the intake manifold, not the exhaust manifold. Now my question is, what the heck that head is? Is that a Si VTEC head with another valve cover? Also, is that port (about 1 inch diameter) near the intake manifold is for the VTEC. I'm new to Honda engine, I know about engines, but those are new to me. So, if that port is for vtec, how do we put the VTEC on it? Is there kits or used parts that will do the job? Also, is it better to have a VTEC controller in the car, not connected to the ECU? Another queston, if it's a ZC block with a Si VTEC SOHC head (mini-me?) how much HP is that engine putting up with VTEC activated?
Thanks a lot.
Thanks a lot.
near 40 reads and no reply? Does someone has a clue. I'm pretty sure someone knows what this port near the IM is. By the way, we'll work on his car tonite, so I'll take pictures, but if someone knows if that thing is for the VTEC and what parts he has to buy, he will buy those parts tonite, so it'll help us greatly in the process. Having a VTEC on a such small engine will help for sure.

actually they did produce a sohc vtec zc in japan they are 1.6liters and make about 115 to the wheels
ok, but, is it normal that it's not written VTEC on the valve cover. And what valve cover layout does the SOHC VTEC ZC has? Are the spark plugs near the IM and where the oil cap is located. On his car, the oil cap is on the left side near the battery and the exhaust manifold.

the motor you are describing is not vtec the hole you are asking about could be for a mechanical fuel pump or egr valve pics would help

just because it doesnt say vtec on the valve cover for SOHC doesnt mean its not a vtec

that is a non vtec engine and the part of the casting on the head that you are reffering to was used for a mechanical fuel pump on the carburated version of that motor. i couldnt see in the pick if it is open but im guessing that it is just a blank hole in the head... nothing to worry about unless it is open then you must build a block off plate..HOPE THAT HELPED
