Default Ls Block, Gsr pistons and rods, Ls head.. Good combo?

im buying my friends complete 99 ls swap, problem is the block is shot, both mounts are fucked, cuz it was in an accident, and the oil pan is bashed in a little bit, since later on i want to do ls/vtec i figure ill get an ls block, gsr pistons and rods, have them balanced, put some arp studs, thin head gasket and his 99 ls head, his motor is mint, low miles, looks NEW inside.. what do you think of this combo

r u gonna be run n ur friends LS block? or is it shot. im confused by ur post.

but if ur gonna be put n in pistons, u should put in a set of ITR or CTR pistons instead of the GSR's. the gsr pistons dont raise the compression ratio too much. check this site out. it will help u out a bit

also, if ur gonna be putting new honda pistons into the rods, have them installed at a engine shop. they need to press out ur old wrist pin and then heat the rod up in order to slip the pin onto the new rod and piston

gsr rods wont fit w/ an LS crank unless you have some sort of custom deckplate (laughs). good combo for an ls = pr3/p30 pistons, ls rods (cause they're the correct length), balance'd ls crank, arp rod bolts, and if you want to go ls/vtec: get pr3 head (or whatever you prefer) have it ported then get an ITR spring set w/ some CTR or 00-01 ITR cams. make sure to use vtec oil pump and water pump.

that's a great build thats inexpensive (realatively) and will rev to 8500 safely and make great power tuned.
