Default M12 Head Bolt Pitch. WTF?????

My service manual clearly states that the cylinder head bolts are M12 x 1.25mm pitch.

I used a M12 x 1.25mm tap on some of block holes to clear them up and LOADS of material was cut from the bore wall for some reason.

I lined up the tap with a bolt and the threads DO NOT LINE UP!!.

I then decided to measure the thread pitch of the bolt manually.
Number of threads: 32
Length of 32 threads: 47mm

That gives a pitch of: 47/32 = 1.46mm!
Measured pitch was approx 1.5mm WTF!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I just looked at my manual, and it says 12mm x 1.25. Right on the page where it has the torque specs and torque sequence.

However, I have a box of stock H22 head bolts right here, and I measured them with a thread gauge. They are indeed 12mm x 1.5.

Thanks for checking that for me.

After the holes were tapped to 1.25mm, the head bolts stripped out as soon as I tried to torque them down, ahh!

It makes me wonder how many other people have inadvertently put in the wrong insert pitch after reading the manual.

So a word of warning to H22 engine owners:THE HEAD BOLT IS M12 x 1.5mm and NOT 1.25mm like the honda manual states.
