Default California SMOG- would my setup pass?

I'm running a B16a2(stock with acceptions to bolt-ons) head atop a B18A block with oversized ITR pistons. I'm running a chipped P28 ECU. but for smog purposes I would switch to a stock OBD2 LS ECU. I wasn't running a catalytic converter for a while, but recently got a used ITR cat. If I were able to pass visual, and if all sensors were in order, what are my chances of passing the snoffer test? If any, let me know what other modifications would need to be done to pass, besides swapping out my setup

I have yet to see a lsvtec engine pass smog. you'll be lucky to pass the visual. if the smog tech is even a bit competent about what goes to what, he will fail you.

If I were to pass visual, however, how likely would it be that I would pass emissions? I haven't head of LsVtec's passing before either, but if tuned correctly, could it be possible?

i think its very possible to pass smog, i dont know about the visual... do they run serial numbers to check on the motor? would they see its not originally a vtec? i dont know much about california laws.. but i do know a built LS i built running a chipped pr4 and s-afc passed e-check in ohio doing the dyno emmissions test w/ crazier parts + big injectors and 255 fuel pump. we killed fuel pressure right as we rolled it in the door. also ran the car for about 45 minutes before getting there.

when using an ls ecu how is it that the vtec head, whichever a person uses, makes a person fail?

only reason an ls/vtec would fail emmissions is 1. because of laws for mismatching numbers and parts or 2. poor tuning

hey quiks66, I'll tell you one thing. I dont have a ls vtec setup but I am running a jdm itr cat and failed smog. I put my stock cat back on and I'm going to re-test. You might want to use a stock cat.

hey i passed smog with a lsvtec, but i did mine before i threw in the pr3 slugs, and i put my ls ecu back in. The guy asked me if it was the original b18 and I smiled and said yeah. That was the longest 30 mins of my life. Paid 30 bucks for the smog! The lsvtec was completely stock at the time, meaning stock b18a block and stock b16 head w/ dc sport headers and custom catback exhaust. So i'm cleared for another 2 years!

I have never heard or seen someone passing smog here in CA with an LS/V setup. You might have a slim chance if your setup is right. If you have a bad setup, which most likely will lead to an oil or fuel leak; then you'll fail for sure.

i do not think you will be able to pass with that cat unless it has less than 60k on it, i used 3 differents cats when i had to go to the referre 7 times, but i did pass on an itr cat for my tests and finally passed, and everytime i went i was compltelty stock no nothing. i mean it only 40 bucks might as well see if you pass before you do any big changes and if you fail show me your results cause i have many from the ref and can give you suggestions to what to do, **** hope i never go there again. if you use the ls ecu just make sure you do a tune up, and check your timing. good luck and let me know.

Never get your car smogged if you haven't warmed it up. Run it around the block for a good few minutes. Just giving some heads up.
