Default OBD0/I/II

Ok i know this is a really dumb question but I'm going to do the dpfi -> mpfi conversion on my 89 civic dx and i'm wondering what the difference is between OBD0/I/II. What exactly do they mean. I've heard i'll have more trouble with emissions with some than others but that's about all i know. if there's already a faq about this please point me that way in case i didn't search hard enough. thanks for helping out a newb.

thanks for the search page, that's quite helpful...the only i FAQ i can find is how to make about a d15 obd0 mini me swap. which isn't what i'm interested in. if you'd like to let me know what OBD0 and OBD1 are, and how to search for a FAQ that explains them, i'd be glad to search again. but until then all i can search for is "OBDX AND FAQ".

On Board Diagnostics

The 0,1,2 are the different versions that have progressed through the years. OBD regulations are basically clean air laws and smog control laws that are passed in government. The versions are updated as new laws/regulations are passed.

thanks for the info. if i'm converting from dpfi to mpfi using the mpfi set up from an OBD1 D16A16, does the resistor box have to be specific to OBD1, or can i just use the box from an 89-91 Si. I ask because I'm ordering most of the set up together from one place but the resistor box from another.

D16A16?

You mean the D16A6? That is an OBD0 engine. Yes you would need the little box for MPFI.

vtecn8ive, that's ok, i'm interested to know too.

yes, i meant d16a6, sorry about that.

right now i have a stock dx ecu, but the one that comes with the mpfi set up i'm thinking about getting is a P06. any thoughts about this particular ecu? thanks for the input.

p06 is a good ecu and it will serve your dpfi->mpfi swap well...

problems... no. because you are just making the injection like a it would be a car that came with mpfi. mine came with mpfi and it has no problem with emissions.

wtf!? NO. you need a pm6 (1988-1991 MPFI obd-0) from a 88-91 crx/civic si.

a p06 is obd-1 and you will have to convert to obd1 to use it!

a resistor box is on obd-0 cars.

wow thanks for that guys. this i why i started this thread in the first place, cause the kit i was gonna buy did have a P06 and was obd1. another kit i'm looking at comes with a pm6, it's more expensive but seems to be more what i'm looking for. by kit i just mean someone selling most or all of the parts required for the conversion in one package.

in tutorials about the mpfi conversions, some mention a brace/gasket needed to put the IM on the dx. is this necessary and where can one be found? thanks again, you guys are awesome.
