Seat Belt Mounting Points HELP!
I have a 89 Crx Hf with some Sparco seats. They have the 4 point harnesses but the back of the harness is bolted to the ground drectly behind my seat. My friend says that if I get in a accident that I will snap my back because of how it's mounted. He thinks i need a rear tie bar and put it to that directly back. Any suggestions? Thanks
Ive read many things on this site about harnesses and people who use them wrong. Its ideal to run harnesses with a rollbar/rollcage. One safety factor is that if you do have harnesses and your in a roll over crash that you cant slump in your seat and you could be crushed. Your body really has no moving capabilities when youre strapped tight into a harness. Thats why a rollbar is ideal because itll protect you from the roof coming down on you.
This has been covered so many times but it really comes down to whether you want to drive like that or not. Its safer to have a rollbar. Theres many people on here who have a lot better info than me about this, this is just my opinion on the matter.

i just went a ******* bought a roll bar. didn't want to. kinda had to for safety. now i like it. actually love it. cleaning the inside of my car can be a pain with it. but still love it.
and now that u said u have 4 point harnesses. u gonna get all the pro dirvers saying u need 6 point or higher for real safety yada yada yada. yea they right. but if its a street car your fine.
PM me all the info you would like once u get a roll bar or anything.
but don't keep your harnesses like that or bolt them to any where u don't have noraml mounting points
edit. rear 'strut tower bar' wont save you

Forget using a strut tower bar. It's not going to be strong enough in an accident. If you're going to mount the shoulder belts without a rollbar/cage, make sure it's mounted right and at the right angle. http://www.simpsonraceproducts.com/ If the should belts are too steep, the shoulder belts not only stop your body from moving forward, but it also in essence "pulls downward" on your shoulders causing spinal compression.
Forget using a 4pt harness unless it's DOT approved. The lapbelts of the 4pt will pull up above your hipbone in a accident crushing your guts. The lapbelts get pulled up because of the shoulder belts pull up on it in an accident. You need a 5th/6th point (sub-belt) to make sure the lap belt doesn't get pulled up.

A collision is a collision. It doesn't matter if you're racing or not.
You're better off using the stock seatbelt rather than an improper harness.

Not according to SFI. [URLhttp://www.sparcousa.com/SFIFoundation%20Belts.pdf][/URL] You want the mounting point to be from 30deg above to 5 deg below your shoulders.
If you're shoulder straps are mounted to the rear factory seatbelt mounting points, that's probably too low.

What's "real" safety? I think that's the kind I would want.

Man I can tell this **** will go to at least to page 2.
People already approched me about the mounting of the 4-point harness without rollcage.
If you do a search about this then you will see how many times this has being discussed.
Here is a cliff note. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=741755
I am trying to save money for a 4-pt cage now.

If you are gonna do harnesses you MUST do 5pts (they have a crotch belt) to keep from submarining and a rollcage to mount the harnesses too and keep you from getting crushed if the car rolls over.
Do not mount the harnesse to a rear tie bar as it is not strong enough to support your body in an accident.
If you run harneses and the car rolls over you can possibly crush your head/neck/spine. The harness does not let your body bend over incase of rollover.
