Azenis or S-03?
Obviously the Azenis is significantly cheaper and im sure the S-03 does better in the rain. Life i would have to assume is going to be similar. Noise im not concerned with. But which tire is gonna give better overall flat out dry grip?

Azenis
Azenis
One datapoint.. I bought a set of S03 PP with something like 25K on them and got another 6-7K out of them (including maybe 20 autox runs). They're OK, but they are not going to be nearly as good in the dry as Azenis. IMHO they are overrated/priced. I don't need the ability to do 100 mph through slaloms in the rain. As long as you don't drive like an idiot in inclement weather you will be fine with something else.

another vote for Azenis... they're a great tire for a great price!
Christian, who's on his 4th set

My thoughts...
My thoughts...
If money wasn't the determining factor, admittingly the S-03's are the better tire. Grip is equal to the Azenis, and they will hold their composure much better on the track.
The Azenis are surprisingly heavy, and make turn in feel almost sloppy. They also put the weight, right where you don't want it. Though the grip they provide(until greasy) is almost on par with some R-compounds. On track, you'll love them and hate them. Your first few laps after warming them up will provide you with great confidence. But soon enough, you'll notice you're sliding all over the place. They get extremely greasy.
But hands down for the price, they're unbeatable.
Personaly I go with the Azenis, even now on my Evo. Just because I'm a cheap bastard, and I can't afford to be spending almost $800 for the S-03's(17"). And since I'm replacing them at about every 5,000 miles, that would get far too expensive.
That's just my experience though.

I have the Azenis on my crx, and love 'em. Had the S03s on my other car, and wasn't too impressed - for my next set, went with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s, and like them much better. Tirerack has a good side-by-side test of the two, and they agreed with my assessment.

I've autocrossed both the Bridgestone S03's and the Falken Azenis Sports on my Firebird, and the Azenis' are just a bit better. Worth 0.5-1 second over the Bridgestones, IMO.
I don't know how they compare for track use. I ran 245 Fawken tires on my Firebird, and they were good for 3 laps before they got greazy and skatey (3,3XX-pound car, though). Never run the Bridgestones on track.

I could run better times than some of the guys on R-tires at my events in my BMW, on RE950's. Come on.
If I were going to have an ideal ST autocross setup, I'd have a set of brand new Azenis scrubbed in and mounted for rain events only, and another set mounted to use at dry events.

the kuhmo's don't hold up for **** as far as i'm concerned. i'd take greasy azenis over chunking kuhmos any day.

The Azenis grips a wet* surface very, very well. I was shocked how well when I posted a top 10 overall time, 2nd overall pax in the wet last year at a Petersburg autocross. With Courtney Cormier (Mini) and Richard West (4wd ownz) in attendance too. I was less than .2 off of West, IIRC.
*notice I said "wet", not 2" deep standing water...

yup, they rock in the wet. at a vmp autocross a month ago i posted the second fastest time once the rain started, beat by a wrx and by less time than he had beaten me by in the dry.

The Azenis that stunned me with their level of wet grip were a year old as well. Surprisingly, driving home from the same rainy autocross at 70+mph, they sucked. If they could move water out of the way at 80+mph, they would kick serious *** on track in the wet.
