Default Tranny rebuild

I called a local transmission shop today and they told me that they would drop my tranny and take it apart for $350. Find out what I needed, fix it, and then put it back for around $1000. My problem is that I am locked out of reverse and I have a bad 5th gear grind. And also my tranny does not feel too solid. I am assuming it quite possibly is the syncro, but I am not sure. I really need to get this done because I want to make my lude my daily driver. Does this seem like a reasonable price? By the way, I have a 99 SH.

the $350 is a good price. i sure hope they know what they are getting into. the grand though, i dont see how that can quote you exactly when they dont even know exactly whats wrong with it.

basically for a grand you could buy a new tranny. possibly search threads made by LEN. there is a parts thread that he has contact numbers for. call him and see what a brand new tranny would cost. then all you would have to do is swap them out.

Hey shakes, I did a search and didn't really find any threads pertaining to engines. How much do syncros usually cost? How much should a SH tranny w/ low miles cost me? To tell you the truth, I would rather have a new tranny because the one I have know does not feel solid. If you don't mind finding that number you were talking about, it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I couldn't find it because I have half down syndrome .
