I'm doing my first oil change for my LS motor, how much oil should I put in?

 

acura service manual says 3.7 us quarts, I'm not sure if this counts the filter, but I think I remember using somewhere above 4

always add and then check it

I'm sure someone else will jump in and help too, but the manual does say 3.7

 

4.5 quarts with filter replacement, 3.7 if keeping same filter.

i use 4 quarts with the filter change in my 94 ls. never had a problem

 

Ok thanks alot guys, so i'll drain everything and the filter, then fill it up to about 4, check the dipstick and see where I need to be, I want to be just below the full mark, right?

 

Have someone change it for you if you don't know how. If you just add 4 quarts and it looks fine. Then its probably not enough. Filter holds about .5 quarts. I'm not sure if it's the same as a gs-r but its 4.2 in the pan and 4.6 overall.

I showed up with 1 qt. of oil ( hence the name) and my friends laugh at me till this day...don't make same mistake...

 

the ls take 3.7, so u just round up to 4 and ur good. use 4 in the ls. period.
