Mugen intake vs rain
I am going to be purchasing the mugen intake soon, and a friend told me not to drive in the rain becuase the mugen will suck up the water. I wanted to verify with the pros on here if that is true. I've never heard of anyone saying this about the Mugen intake.

You'd have to hit a pretty big puddle (as in small pond or river) in order to submerge the opening of the m00gen intake.

LOL yap. On the Mugen instruction it says do not drive in heavy heavy rain or hurricane.

Let's see. If, on average, our minimum ride height is 4.5 inches (measured from jacking point), its safe to assume that the bottom of the front lip is about the same distance to the ground, give or take a tiny bit.
The scoop on the bottom of the Mugen intake faces upwards and at no point is as low as the front of the lip, it sits slightly higher, say, 4.75" from the ground. Just a guess, as I haven't seen my intake in a while... but the top of the scoop (the opening) is about 2-2.5 inches higher than the lowest point of the intake arm.
ANYONE dumb enough to willfully drive through 6.75" +/- 0.5" of water deserves to hydrolock their engine. The scoop would have to be totally engulfed to suck water. Not to mention travel up that huge intake arm, pass through the relatively thick filter, etc. A drop or two isn't going to make it past.
Good thing most companies use a nice catch-all like "don't drive in heavy rain, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornados, oceans, lakes, rivers, etc", because its obvious that some people aren't smart enough to spend three minutes to determine how difficult it would be to just all of a sudden end up in a 7" .... lol... puddle. "omg! wow! im in half a foot of water!! how did that happen!! oh snap!!" Most of us cringe at a pothole or ANY standing water, let alone half a foot or more.
Chris - who notes the use of the word 'willfully' in reference to driving through large puddles. (as opposed to insane flash floods, being stuck on an underpass with water approaching, etc)

Alright, thats what I thought, but just wanted to be safe. I didn't make any sense, but now all these replies are worth the question I asked. Funny ISH guys thanks.

how does one get stuck on an underpass?

Its easier than you think to end up in a situation where you can hydrlock your motor. It doesnt take a whole lot of water... Few weeks ago a friend of mine was driving home, and drove into a monster t-storm, and was pulling off the road because it was so bad (bald falkens and AEM intake) when he hit a big *** puddle and cyl #1 ate it.
