Default CRX wanting to get a custom exhaust but have questions...

I am looking to replace the stock exhaust on my '89 Si with a B16 swap but am very uneducated about how the various parts effect performance and sound. To save some money I was planning on having a muffler shop bend a custom set of pipes.

The first choice is if I should go with 2.5" or 3" pipes. Higher flow = more HP but arent there also issues with the engine not performing correctly if there in not enough back pressure?

What the other components I need (muffler, cat etc) and does anyone have a recommendation for specific brands? Also, for the muffler are there any setups that will have an exit on either side for the dual exhaust look? I am going for a low rumble tone of moderate volume (definately dont want the bee in a tin can 'ricer' sound). Thanks!

The highest diameter piping you should go is 2.5" for a N/A setup. You want a lil bit of backpressure to compensate for the loss of torque at the lower end while maintaining a increase of HP in the higher end. 3" is ideal for turbo because the whole point of turbo is to eliminate backpressure and push the exhaust out as fast as you can.

First of all, All those catalytic converters are the same. OEM ones just cost too damn much and if you really need to replace your catalytic converter. I suggest going with a Carsound Catalytic Converter..its cheap and sounds ricey but gets the job done. Oh, whatever you do to CRX's man? They will always sound like fart cans unless you toss on a Resonator (18" is usually sufficient to reduce noise). I lik e how my Magnaflow sounds on my car. I have it routed out the stock side and mendrel bent 2" catback using a resonator. It drives ok for me. But you really need to use the search button before posting.

You may be interested in other companies for exhausts such as Tanabe, Invidia, RS*R, Flowmaster, Greddy, Trust, DC Sports. It all matters in how much you wanna spend man. Good luck

like crx-fluffy said don't go no bigger than 2.5" and a good muffler for your "low rumble tone of moderate volume" is the ES muffler look stock gets the job done and cops off your ***
