I have a 1994 dx 2dr cp, with the 1.5 non-vtec. It has 170,000 miles on it and burns some oil. I was wondering if it would pay to turbo that sohc or buy a b16a swap I could get for around $2000? And then in the future turbo that. I would be happy with around 300 whp, but I am wondering the most probable swap and the cheapest. Thanks for any help

 

I'd get a new SOHC first, then boost it.

 

don't turbo your stock motor b/c it will immediately turn into a stick of dynamite with the burning oil problem.

Any engine can make more power than another one, depeding on how much money you're willing to sink into it. In NA form and as well with forced induction, a DOHC VTEC Honda motor is going to make power easier than an SOHC will. If you were to go NA, you'd be crazy not to go DOHC. They make good turbo motors as well, but you run into higher compression ratios with the DOHCs that make tuning that much more critical. Of course if you want to go all out you can just buy a B16A and slap some forged internals inside that sucker(and Darton Sleeves if you really wanna go fast) and then save yourself from accidently blowing it up while giving it too much boost on stock internals before you have it tuned right. Don't turbo ANYTHING until you have done a LOT of research on turbochargers

what you have under the hood. But I am always willing to race, even if i loose it would be at least nice to loose to a civic, and not some grand am or something.
