I am have some strange noises
Reciently my h22a's auto tensioner went out. Which caused it to make a loud noise when I let off the gas anything higher than 3.5k and it will stop at around 2k. I got the auto tensioner replaced with a manual tensioner and the noise was completely gone till I drove it on the freeway. The noise is much more quieter but it is still there.
I adjusted the tension on the manual tensioner by:
1) removing the valve cover
2) setting the engine at TDC
3) loosening and tightining the adjuster nut
4) turning the crankshaft 3 teeth counter-clockwise
5) loosening and tightining the adjuster nut.
After doing this I still notice the sound.
I've come to the conclusion that the manual tensioner doesent hold in place.

Is it possible that something is damaged or do I need to adjust the tensioner again?
I've been pricing new heads just if incase.</TD></TR></TABLE>
You removed the head to adjust your tensioner?
What kind of sound?

I meant valve cover.
The noise that I am trying to describe is the vibrating noise that your timing belt makes when it is loose.
I know that I adjustee the tensioner was in the helms manual for the h23 engine. I want to know if I neef to go 3 teeth or more for an h22a.

turning the crank counter clockwise, which is the direction the engine spins, will put the slack on the wrong side of the crankshaft. you should have spun it clockwise so the slack was on the tensioner side. rule of thumb honda and acura engines with the crank pulley facing the driver side spin counter clockwise.
actually I noticed that it goes away and comes back after a few minutes. Maybe I am not tightening the adjusting screw enough? How hard does it need to be? I cant fit a torque wrench up there.
