I have a 1991 Civic LX 4 door with the D15B2. Recently I had to replace the battery, and the first day the car started fine. The next morning, I noticed that the engine cranked for a few seconds before starting, which it had never done before. Yesterday morning, the car would not start at all, although the engine was turning over (verified by seeing the alt. belt turn). Latter in the day, I checked some fuses, including the ones attached to the positive battery cable that are labelled "Passive L" and "Passive R", which I assume control the automatic safety belts. No bad fuses found, but after checking them the car started. I thought my problem was solved. This morning, however, the car would not start (engine still turns over). My question is, could the "Passive" (belts?) circuit have anything to do with this? The wires that plug into the box with the Passive fuses are not in the best of shape. If that doesn't sound like my problem, any ideas what it could be? Any common problems with 1991 civics that would cause them not to start? Thanks in advance!

 

my guess is that it's your main relay going bad. when the engine cranks but doesnt start, can you hear the fuel pump charging?

if you sit in the car and turn the key to ON (not starting the car), you should see the battery light come on, hear the main relay under your dash click, and hear the fuel pump charging the fuel lines for two seconds.

edit: sorry about that. its been a while since i actually stopped to look at the ignition switch.
