Car starts and shuts off immediately
I have a 91 mazda mx6 -(non turbo), when it starts it shuts right off. I adjust the idle on the throttle body and that doesn't do anything. I assumed it was the throttle body, but when i disconnect the cable from the air flow meter, it runs for about 13 secs then shuts off. I assumed it was the airflow meter. I replaced the meter and that wasn't the problem. My brother in -law doesn't think its the throttle body.
I purchased the car from a friend and it was running fine. do you think it may need a tune? What else can i check.

It shuts of at Idle. Once i get it to start I can maintain with the gas pedal, however, around 1500rpm it will shut off. Its a manual and i can't keep a rev up to even drive it.
Not to familiar with mazdas. but are you getting any CEL codes?
Could be a bunch of things.
1. clogged up catalytic converter
2. maybe corrosion on certain ecu pins.
3. loose connection somewhere
4. a bad idle speed control valve
What i would do right away would be to measure fuel pressure... to test for a clogged fuel filter or a pump that is heading south...
Got the tools to do this?
If not, you may disconnect the fuel line after the fuel filter and crank it over. You should see it squirt out. and not dribble. Now doing it this way will only give you an indication. A pressure guage is much more accurate.

dont have the tools to test, but i will disconnect the hose. and see if it squirts. A mechanic just told me to check the throttle cause sometimes it might have black gum on it.
