Default How does a 9260 rpm over-rev on a bone stock internal H22A sound? :-(

So im heading out of town to visit some friends, and I'm behind this guy goin 65 in a 75 on the interstate in the fast lane, I tried to let him know I wanted to pass him but he just didn't get the clue, so i decide to downshift into 4th and pass him on the right, nobody in the right lane a mile behind or ahead and he's in the fast lane? wtf, anyway, I clutch, rev match, get into gear, I thought, and slam down on the throttle, well, I've obviously misshifted before and the fuel cutoff has stopped the engine, well, this time it didn't, so my tach needle wrapped around to past 8K, the max rpm on the tach itself, and so I just wanted to check the actual high rpm so I open my glove compartment and see the Max RPM on the V-AFC reads 9260, I nearly died. I stop off at a Gas station just to check oil/sounds, tbelt. I am just freaking scared as hell, 150 miles from home and nearly blowing my engine up, greeeeat!

Bottom Line is what do I need to check, I know to do a compression test, I'll open up the head tomorrow and check valve lash, but other than that, do you guys recommend anything for me to do after this horrible mishap? Thanks a lot for any help you guys can contribute...

CN: Overrevved to 9260 on a bone stock internal H22A, what do I need to check beside Compression, valves, and head? Thanks a lot.

Most likely you bent some valves, Not that big of a deal just adjust them and drive it,I did that before in race shift **** came off and did the ole 1 2 3 2 instead of 1 2 3 4. I drove the car like that for over a year and sprayed it. I would adjust the valves and drive it that way, you may have a shutter or stumble I had one from 3100 to about 3400K while normal driving. Goodluck hope it works out 4 you

Awww man, that sux. I am getting really worried about mis-shifting now. I did it once but I wasn't going too fast..it didn't even redline fortunately.

Just so you know, fuel-cutoff will not do ANYTHING for you when you mis-shift.

most likely if your car runs normal now, your engine is fine.

over reving is obviously not good, but if your car sounds normal and runs normal you should be fine.

on a side note, i've misshifted adn hit 9k+ several times on my stock h22 and left fine,

And there's an ignorant post.

Pretty much if your car is idling fine, then you didn't do any damage.

**** you for having sympathy towards someone that made a mistake, yes, it was a new shifter I just installed, and yes, it was new linkage. So gimme a ****** break and don't ever criticize anyone else for making a mistake that you will one day make yourself. I was doing nothing stupid, following the rules of the road and trying to past someone in the fast lane didn't work out, read the ******* post you *******.

Thank you guys for the input, I really appreciate it, well, I'll get a compression test just in case, there is a wierd noise coming from the valvetrain on the tbelt side so I'll probably also do a valve adj. Thanks a lot guys!

Alright, so I'm headin to my friend's house across town tonight, goin down a windy road so I take one of the corner's in 2nd, take it up to 7220 (V-AFC Reading) and throw it in 3rd and pull up to the light, it's idling for like 5 seconds when it starts making a KNOCKING noise, not a ticking like the valve lash is off a little, a KNOCKING, as in a ******* valve knocking against the top of a piston
Me: --> --> --> -->
So I spend the remainder of the night in a tow truck. This sucks, well, now onto the supertech valve sale thread...

Went out to lunch today with my friend that knows a bit and he said that I probably cracked my inner oil gear on the way up to phoenix and then it finally totally broke off last night. It's a horrible knocking noise, and I was selling my car btw... So now time to look for a stock motor and throw it back in, and sell it, then tear apart the H22 and see what happened for sure, hopefully I can salvage the block and pistons, we'll see...Thanks for your help anyways guys, I'm gonna go cry like the little emo bastard that I am

See if you can beat this:
First Love broke up with me and started dating my 'friend' a month later.
Lost the best job I've ever had that was basically gonna pay for my schooling which is $3k+/semester.
Blew up my H22...

dude that all blows. i ahve had a nice valve noise for a while, but my h22 still runs fine. i dont think it has anything to do with the valve, i think it is something else like a rocker or something. poor emo kid!! i know the feeling dude. Emo sucks sometimes, especially when you like cars!
