Not sure if it would beat a well running B16A. It has ony a little more torque. I'd say they're pretty much the same.

Any time you can get a motor with a verifiable history...It's worth it to me! One thing for sure, it'll be easier than a b18c1 due to the obd conversion.

i would personally go with the B18C1 if i had a choice and they where the ssame price. but a B17 would probably loose to a B16 any day of the week just for the simple fact that the B16 has 10.4+ compression compaared to the B17's 9.7:1 compression. I would but a b16 over a b17 and then put the b17 crank in the b16. but if u know the history yon the b17 and you are getting it for a good price, have at it. it has alot of potential. Carracr625 just for personally referrence b17 are OBD-1 and B18C1 came OBD-1 too

the b17 is not that big of a difference from the b16 but if you can, get the c1

the good thing about it is the tranny and the obd1 electronics. not to mention easier to have smogged if your in cali.

its basically a b16a with a lil more torque.

but a b18c is a whole different beast.

and it makes the same horsepower/more torque with about a point less compression. All things equal it will out preform a b16 any day of the week.

Go with B17a1. The Best tranny and it's good platform. Back in 92-93 a stock GS-R ran 15.2- 15.4 out of the Box.

For a EF, either motor is a good choice. I would get b17 beacuse it has a cable tranny which is less of a headache than b18c hydro tranny, unless you have the hasport conversion kit.

Either way, you can bet a b16 with good driving.

I dont get where all you people get that the b17 will romp on a b16, a couple more lb torque but consider tranny as well. A b16 with its corresponding tranny plus an extra 1000rpms will hold its own against a b17 with its corresponding tranny. Now put a b16 tranny on that b17 and youll have a nice deal. And c1 > b16 or b17.

Sure. With nitrous, that is. It's about the same as a B16 - so probably low 14's to high 14's territory with an average EF and driver.

Ever ran them both side by side in the same exact cars (89 EF's)? I have. I won. Pulled on him nicely both from a slight roll and a nice freeway run. Believe it or not (and i know u wont), i was rockin a LS trans too...he had the S1.
