Is tig cleaner(less sparks/slag/smoke?)
Justt wondering if using a tig is cleaner than mig as I never see them throwing up any sparks on the tv shows.
Does this mean I could use a tig in my basement without fear of setting the place on fire?
What about the gas does it give off any harmful fumes?
I don't have a garage so its either the basement or outside.

Tig is very clean (Zero slag and sparks and a very small plume of smoke). There is a very small concentrated arc.
As for fumes, I would not do any type of welding without some form of ventilation.

All you need is a small exhaust fan (with the intake hose close to your work) with a hose that vents outside , like this: http://www.mylincolnelectric.c...p=605
yea but with tig u dont want your ventalion close cause tig using a inert gas call argon. and that is your protection of your weld. and if you suck that gas away your weld with be cantaminated and weak.

...and argon is more dense than air so it doesn't float upward. It goes down.
My previous welding instructior has been welding every day for 30+ years without any ventilation or health issues.

Yup. I'm sure it'd be great fun to asphyxiate yourself.
