Default Looking to buy ITR in the future

Hello peoples, I am looking to buy an Integra Type R in the (near, I hope) future. The thing is that I am 17 years old now, and going to be a senior next year. Here in Hawaii, there are hardly ITRs for sale, and when they do come up, $25+ isn't rare. I am planning on joining the military and purchasing one hopefully by the ending of 2005, or early 2006. Can you folks help me out and list how much you paid for the car, and your annual insurance rate? I am weighing my options between holding on to my DA and taking it to the mainland (continental US) or purchasing an R. Any other heads up on ITRs(recalls, changes, etc.) are greatly appreciated!

as for Ins Rates and all the other things you asked, try a search first. I'm sure you will have plenty to read.

DA9RsIntegra,

If your military there are some minimal Service Men discounts but nothing to make a big difference expect to pay high rates at the age of 19, when you should be graduating Basic. You'll get a small break at 21 and another at 25. If your going NCO don't expect to make a **** load of money in the military. You got to get into OCS and get into West Point to make the big bucks.

By the end of 2005 or 2006...your tastes will probably have changed. Your pretty early on asking to buy one now, if your not going to buy for year and a half to two years.

Military huh? Been there done that. Don't ever want to do it again. Don't recommend it. Thanks to the U.S. Army and Schoefield Barracks I am now 70% dissabled in my left arm. If I had a dollar for every person I told to not join I'd have several TYPE R's in the garage

I'm located in Haleiwa, if you need any help, just ask. Peace.

Thanks for that info man... Well, I don't plan on staying in the service till I retire. My father was Marines and my sister is Air Force and while there isn't pressure to join, I look up to both of them, and I like what they have/are doing in their lives. I have wanted to be in the military for while now and I don't see that changing. Also, as for wanting a Type-R, I've dreamt of one since 1997 (I was in the mainland, and sat in one @ a local dealership in Albuquerque) and here I am on my second DA Integra @ 17and I have not ever wanted one as much as I do now.

I too joined the army. I for one recommend the service. It allows you to experience more than most people and gives you a chance to grow up and make your own decisions. Job training and college money is also a plus.

Honestly... you will never be able to drive you car in the military because you will either be in the field training for war or going to war.

I had a 96 Civic Ex that I was able to put 6k miles on in 4 years. Just think about that.

Don't join the military because you want a car... Look at it as a change of life.

Misfit,

Great advice. Good way to look at things.

Though I'd never do it again, I can say I pulled alot of positive things out of being in the military. For one, it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, both physical and mental. I don't know what your MOS was but I was 11B. I was just getting ready for 2/218th Sniper School when I busted my shoulder. I had plans of going all the way. Sniper School, Air Assult, Air Borne, Pathfinders, SEARS, RIPP, Ranger School....just the body wasn't up for it. Funny thing is. Before I moved to Hawaii some friends who are Police Officers convinced me to take my State Patrol Exams...it was like the military all over again.

I realized at a young age that I took a lot of things for granted. Adjusting to Military life was pretty tough at first. Misfit is also right that you will do things that civilians never can. So take it for what it's worth to you.

well, what we paid for the R's isn't much of a question. They stopped making them. Insurance rates are high right now cause integra's are still the most stolen car. I think it would be hard to say what price is appropriate for you to pay if you were to pick up an ITR. The market price usually varies but be sure you're ready to pay more than you would for a GSR. Good luck, im not too informative about the services but do what you think is right. Just take what the other boys said into account.

Yeah im in the US Marine Corp. Marines probably have the best chance of getting an R, IMO. One of my buddies got a JDM CTR over to the NJ and without mods (directly from japan). i was in awe when i saw it. The Marine Corp has a base in Okinawa. the only thing about shipping a car back for nothing is to kiss some a$$ to an officer, so that s/he can sign off on a conex container so that you can ship it back over to the US. by the way customs can not take a look @ what is inside the container so be aware that you might have to do some modifications to the emissions and safety equipment (aka windshields, etc.)
im about done on my first contract and am thinking of reenlisting for like 2 or 3 yrs. but im also thinking about OCS cuz then you can sign off a container yourself as an officer.

As for insurance rates, that is something you are going to have to search. i am currently trying to get insured by USAA. USAA is for military member and doctors, lawyers, etc. I hear that USAA has the lowest rates too.

joining the army just for a car is not smart. join it because you want to i was going join reserves but decides not to.

i also heard if u join the army and quit or drop out or not make it though basic training or whatknot it looks so bad on your record it was as if u were in jail, will have a hard time finding a job. but if u want to serv ur country and travel the world then go for it. as misfit saids tho u wont join and get money for car if thats what your thinking

HybridTypeR80: I plan on joining the Marine Corps AFTER this school year (12th grade) And that seems pretty cool, getting a container when becoming an officer, didn't know that.

Dc2 Powered: I am not joining to buy a car. Its alot more than that, believe me. . And yeah, if a person just plain refuses to participate in Basic once you get there, you can go to prison. I think I said it before but, I'll say it again, I am not joining just to buy a car, I mean, I could probably make more at the supermarket I work at now (Mngr. availabilties in the future) Its more than that

In the Army, if you want to **** around and not do what your supposed to you get what is called an "Article 15" It's a general government bi-law that has many purposes. Every time you get one it will cost you about $800.00 out of your pay. Being an E1 when you join....$800.00 is about all you make every month. You will keep getting these Article 15's until they get so fed up with your *** that they "Recycle" you. This is where they put you in with new recruits (fresh meat) that have just come out of proccessing. So say your in your nineth week of basic and you really **** off the Drill Seargent, he has every right to throw you in with new trainies that are on their first day. They will keep on doing this until 1) They get fed up with you and ship you home or 2) Send you off to Federal Prison where you can think of how much of a ***** and a quitter you are for a couple years.

Getting #1 or #2 on your record can have very dire impacts for the rest of your life. You do not want a dishonorable discharge. Your treated like ****. You will have a hard time finding a decent paying job. Anyone who does a background check will see that your "flagged". No government agency will ever hire you.

I got an Honorable Medicle Discharge. Thanks to that little title, I get a check, every month, tax free from Uncle Sam for the rest of my life, free medical, dentel and eye. Free meds....cheap insurance, GI bill....etc. etc. I have to pay for nothing. A nice way of saying "Hey you busted your *** for us, thanks alot, have a nice life"

So if you go in Young Grasshopper, make sure you bust your *** and leave your carrier with an Honorable discharge and not a General or Dishonorable Discharge.

Just wondering, are you on delayed entry? Did you already go to MEPPS to get tested?

Have you decided on what you want to do when you get in? Remember to pick something that will help you in the future if you decide not to re-up like HYBRIDTYPER80 is doing. Some people become lifers. That's cool. Those are the people you see on the news who are our 2-3-4 star generals. It's also cool if you miss your civi life and don't want to re-up.

Whatever choice you make, you seem to be a smart kid and I'm sure you'll do fine. Would rather have a guy who drives a Type R defending my freedom any day.
