CAN ANYONE FIGURE THIS ONE OUT?
okay.. my friend's 2000 PY ITR is having some problems. His CEL light keeps going off.. i don't know what code it's throwing.
Here is what I know so far:
1. Car jerks when cruising at constant speed and even under normal/light acceleration.
2. CEL light keeps going off
3. Idle jumps to 1500rpm sometimes
He took it to the dealership and they claimed it was his intake and tried to charge him 72 dollars to check it out. They couldn't figure out what was wrong and tell him the problem is because of his intake (AEM CAI). They took off his intake and cleaned the throttle body. The mechanic test drove it and said it was fine. My friend then drove away from the dealership and the problems were all still there.

Oh he didn't have to pay the money. They "tried" to charge him.
I'm not sure if it's bent valves. He drives that thing like a girl and babies it. His car must have no fun. Kind of sad actually.

On the passenger side kick panel, there is a little box with a green plug in it. The box is just there to hold the plug, pull it out and bridge the gap with a paperclip or a piece of wire. Sorry no pic though.
Once you have the plug bridged start the car. The CEL will flash a 2 digit number. The first digit is long flashes, the second short flashes. Then it will repeat, thats the engine code.

Yes...
It looks like a Throttle Positioning Sensor Problem.
The car will jerk sometimes, when your driving it...cause the ECU doesn't know what throttle position your at...possibly the sensor is bad, etc etc etc..
instead of asking questions on the internet, have a mechanic tell you what ECU code it is. Get the code to go on, then leave car running, so they can tell you.
Then its its TPS, fix it, if its different fix that..etc etc. etc.
Good luck pal.

Damn, someone beat me to it
I also think it is your TPS (throttle position sensor)...

I'd consider that confirmation of TPS malfunction. It's a quick fix.
Some dealers suck... my Field VTEC controller was generating MAP codes and the dealer (in NC) replaced it (the MAP) twice! No compaints about Field or AEM (or Mugen header / exhaust). In this case, the Field was the cause of the MAP code (although I doubt the sensor was ever bad) - faulty wiring (i.e. crimps and line splices as opposed to soldering).

Yes I reset the ECU after installing the intake. I installed the intake on his car almost a year ago. The problems just arose recently.

I had a similar problem in my 95 GSR. At around 2-4.5K rpm, under light throttle, the car would jerk and actually shoot a little forward from it. T'wouldn't happen all of the time, just once in a while, so a mechanic couldn't pinpoint anything. To make a long story short, I had the plug wires checked, they were supposedly alright. I then had a valve adjustment and the symptoms became really bad and it happened in every gear all of the time. The mechanic ended up changing the plug wires and all problems gone.
