But is there suppose be that big of a gap between the grill and the hood?

Aftermarket grill....in order...The hood is tight and closed all the way...I think If he gets the sedan radiator cover that fits the grill it would make it look smaller...I dont kno though...all the other 7thgens with this grille have the same kind of gap...

front bumper is a little too extreme for my tastes, but looks well taken care of.
