Driver side window stuck *NOT OFF TRACK*
Okay before anyone says the "window is off track" or "try lubing up the track", it is NOT off track and yes i did lube it up. My passenger side window has gone off track, and i fixed that following the posts that come up when i search. This problem is completely different.
Now here is the problem, my driver side window goes up and down fine, until the very last inch at the top. When I try to close the window, the window will rise and rise until the very last inch, and it will get stuck. When it gets stucks, it tries to go up, but falls back down to an inch open, and keeps doin that making a rat tat tat sound. The most i can get the window to close is half a quarter of an inch, so yes, water will get in, or someone can stick a clothes hanger in there easily. The window operates just fine, except that very last inch or so. What is going on? Will I have to replace the motor? I tried spraying silicone lube into that metal thing with teeth on it, but to no avail.
Maybe its just time to replace the window regulator?

You probably have a stripped tooth or teeth in the regulator "gear". You'll have to take off the interior panel, cut through the plastic, and remove and replace the regulator. It'll take a couple of hours with help from a friend. To get it to close just open the door and squeeze the glass from both sides with your hands and slide the window all the way to the top. Then roll the window up. Chances are theer are still teeth on the gear to secure it in the upmost position.
yeah i pulled up the window as much as i could. What i'm afraid of is that it's the teeth on my motor that's messed up. the motor is pretty expensive, whereas the regulator is only 42 bucks. the teeth on the regulator "look" okay, but looks aren't always everything.

My 96 Civic had very similar symptoms for a long time. Now It just stopped working all together. I took the door apart to take a look. Little confused on whether its the motor or the regulator. I took the plastic off but its difficult to see any gears plus I'm not sure how to remove the regulator. Should I replace both the regulator and motor? It would be nice to have a service manual and pictures to help. I'm going to take a look at Chiltons but instructions are a little hard to follow sometimes. Any suggestion or links to exploded view of parts would be helpful.
The motor is the little box, the regulator is the whole metal 'scissor' assembly that holds the window. At one end of the scissor arm are teeth that mesh with the gear in the motor or handcrank.
With the window down all the way, get a flash light and look down inside. The gear end of the regulator should be all the way up. You can then determine if any teeth are missing.

If you can't get it to roll up that last inch and if it goes "rat-ta-tat-tat", then the last teeth at the end of the partial gear are worn. They're not gripping at all. At the junkyard they entire EX window kit are about $50 for an entire side. At least down at this one place in San Diego. Dealerships usualy charge an arm and a let.
When I removed the panel on the door I saw a small blue box at the right side of the door with a wire connector. Is this the motor? That look very simple to remove and replace. Does the image ^^^^^ above show only the regulator or does it include the motor? My window is all the way up. Do I remove the window or just secure it?
