Default Phantom Grip LSD

This is the cheapest LSD in the market (aside from welding your diff). Does anyone have this LSD installed in the B-series tranny or know of anyone who has it? Reliable product? Piece of crap? Let me know guys cuz I was considering on getting one.

I heard, key word heard from a lot of people that they are crap. Who knows depends on how cheap you can get it. I'd say for the price it might be worth a try.

I tried one out when they first came out a year ago or so. It did absolutely nothing for me. NOthing. No change in times at the track....cornering did not improve....Junk. This was a Y1 cable B16a tranny. Problem is, it cant handle the power. The spring that pushed the collars apart is too weak.

Well, I have one and it does help with launch at track because both tires light up right and goes very straight. It does not really help with cornering where the car still pushes (understeer). I have NA b16a with S1 tranny.....

they suck...my friend put one in his b16 and he got to do one burnout at the track and then he staged and launched and destroyed the tranny...had to be towed away. car now has a itr tranny.

Damn, that is bad. So far my unit has stood up to quite a few 8000 rpm launches, and helped me get a 4 door 91 to 60 ft. times of 1.80 on NA b16a so gotta have some strength to it.

I wouldn't trade a Quaife for it though.

My buddy had a h22 prelude 94 model with a Phantom grip on 15x8x22" slicks... Pulled a 1.62 60' on a 150 shot of gas... motor was build low compression and only made 152 at the wheels on the dyno, with gas once the car hooked up he made that 60' and ran 13.2.

We were all suprised about that til he broke the axle... not at the splines, but in the middle of the shaft.. twisted right in half. Car was full weight, 2800 lbs.

On slicks (13x8x22).
Best 60' = 1.80
Best 1/4 = 13.98
Best mph=99.04

Okay...I can believe that on slicks. I ran a 1.96 60' with 1legged and steelies. So I change my response to phantom grip...Dont get it

BLown90Hatch... look at the numbers. ANY honda that runs a high 13/low 14 is going to have a shitty 60' from lack of torque/power to pull and launch well on slicks. 1.8 60's on slicks is not so good for a powerful car... 1.6 or 1.7's is about right if you have power to run 12's or better.

This is true. However in newer models they increased the spring rate and the unit is more effective. I just installed one in the Si/ZC hybrid tranny but it's not in the car yet. So I couldn't tell you if it works...I hope it does. However, the Phantom Grip made a HUGE difference in handling and launching on my friend's 2G Eclipse GS-T (has 360 whp). Way less torque steer for sure, his 60's decreased at the track and handling was better as well.

every see what higher rate springs in the PG do to the side gears?

You will when it explodes the diff!

Called Phantom Slip for a reason.

FYI the PG is a copy of the OPM diff. Except OPM uses clutches to grip. The PG just uses steel on oiled steel, like motor. OPM does NOT suggest using theirs for drag racing, only autox and road racing where you only need minimal pressure to prevent wheelspin.

Also the PG will not prevent this from happening in a L3 Civ/CRX tranny......

which is the pin that goes through the PG. If anything it will stress it more and cause failure sooner.

But as the D tranny guru, what do I know???????
1.875 60 ft on a open tranny!
