Default 4th gen climate control....recalls?

I have 3 4th gen preludes and on all of them the climate control will mess up. The dash vents will rarely ever come on. The only way i can ever get them on is to go through all of the selections starting with the defrost vents, etc. Does anyone know if this was ever a recall or anything from honda? Anyone else have this problem and have possably fixed it? Also on one of them, i have to hit on the unit to get all the lights to light up and i really do not like hitting it.

i swear there has to be a recall b/c i can't switch from hot to cold and get most of the vents to work either. i've heard others of having this same problem too.

I dunno, but I just know to keep it on the vent setting cuz if i switch it to defrost or feet, who knows when it will come on again. Kinda like my antenna not going down.

i do not believe there is a recall for the vent motor, as that is the culprit. im not sure if it is the motor going bad, the shafts running dry of lubricant, or the harness plug failing.

its loose connections on the circuit board for the climate control. Here is a write up on po.com. Which you will have to register to view, its well worth the money.

http://www.preludeonline.com/s...66192

This details exactly how to fix this problem.

I fixed mine using this write-up. I did it a few weeks ago ago and it works perfectly fine ever since.

I am NoShoNoGoAccord on that forum.

Seems like there were a few issues related to poor connections on circuit boards. I even had an issue like this with my 4WS. That is fixed too.

Maybe someone could cut and paste this writeup giving credit where it is due and leave it in the FAQ. I think because this is a general problem, that we could all benefit from it.

So I'm assuming it requires taking a soldering iron to the circuit board? Anybody know the location of the board

It was posted on prelude online and i doubt they would appreciate us stealing their FAQ'ed threads. The registration is only 6 bucks, and is worth it. Their archives and faqs are just as good as H-T's, if not better.

Guys if you don't want to spend $7 to learn how to fix it then you don't want to fix it all that bad now do you?

Try to get anything fixed on your car for $7

I had that exact problem last summer. To get anyting to turn on, I had to cycle through the defrost, top vents, floor vents, etc. It was a real pain in the a**. Finally, last summer, the AC wouldn't switch on at all (it was mid July in 105 degree heat). I had to have the climate control unit replaced. At the time of replacement, I remember the tech saying that he had a lot of them go bad.

That is the price of information.. I agree with you, though. about a year ago I remember seeing several posts copied and pasted from various threads on P.O. before. Guess people were more generous then.

AND, BTW, Ultimately it is up to the individual user who posts whether they want to share info, NOT the website. Hoarders always lose.

If someone created a write-up and wants to post it on both sites that is up to them. You can find at least one of my write-ups on PO.com And H-T.com That was my decision, however i didn't post the climate control write up. So i won't steal it from their website or its author.

PM Yohan on this site. He is the one who did the write-up on PreludeOnline. I am sure he will help you out.
