Okay so I just picked up a 91 CRX SI with over 2xx,xxx miles on it. I also just picked up a 90 Integra Ls just for the motor and brakes, the motor is out and the brakes will be out next week.
Here is the fun.. The 91 CRX Si, as I was told, tranny is bad and it has a blown headgasket, but I'm pretty positive that is not the case. I started the car up and it idles fine no misfires or anything wrong with it (motor wise), changed the oil only thing wrong was really dark no presence of coolant.
As far as the tranny goes.. I was told only 2nd and 4th work. Well the night i got it running (2 dead batteries brought back to life) only 2nd and 4th worked. Well I just wanted to see how it would do to drive it. Well I go to Blockbuster and when I leave I come to a light try to shift into 1st and it finally does. I then go to the freeway to see if all of them work sure enough they all work!!! Only thing is they are really slugish (feels like I'm shifting in mud). So the next day I get under there and drain the tranny fluid (nice and grey) then I refill but I noticed it is coming out all over look a little closer and it is coming from the driver side axle. Well took off the axle pulled out the axle seal which was chewed up!!! Got a new one installed it but it doesn't seem the axle will go in all the way.. (spacing it out a little)
Well the axle is seating about an inch away from the tranny. I have heard the the snap ring go in and I try to tug it out and it won't come out but if I try to move it it moves a little. Compared to the passenger side which doesn't move at all. So I add tranny fluid and it starts to leak from the driver side axle!!! Only put in about a quart.
On the driver side there is a grinding type noise. Doesn't sound like the brakes but I have never heard a wheel bearing when it goes bad so I'm not sure if that is it.
So for the d16a6 my questions are:
Should i worry about the headgasket??
Are the axles not seating all the way?? (I have tried wiggle them all around tried pounding them in.
^Could something in the tranny cause it not to go in any further?
Any thoughts on the Grinding noise?
And on the next subject..
I got a wrecked (pushed in where the driver sat
)/stripped (last owner need body parts) 1990 Integra Ls.
The motor has about 170,000 on it. I actually drove the car around and it ran great. I drained the tranny fluid and it came out really nice looking (somewhat clear). I was told a women drove it before the accident.
Well I am under the impression that the motor/tranny/ecu plugs right in to the the wiring harness of the 90-91 CRX Si engines, no modification of pins I just may need to lengthen a couple of wires. I know I need new shift linkage and mount kits but thats where the problem comes in low on funds.
I want to put the ls in the 91 CRX SI ( which is my winter/daily beater) so do you guys/(for the few)ladies think I should
1. Save up on cash and get some mounts/linkage and drop the LS in the Si?
or
2. Keep the D16a6 and just fix whats wrong with it?
And I just picked up a digi-cam still getting used to it but I'll to get some pics up.
Here is the picture of what it looks like. Sorry I have to much pics on we-todd-blah...

yeah but I can't afford it right now. Probably in 2 weeks!!
So I know I have to get the D16a6 running at least some what right before I can do the LS swap.

Shane, I would eventually put in the b18(easy swap, use the crx harness, its pie) but in the mean time... Are you sure you have the correct tranny seal? That could be why the axle is not going in. The axle came out of that tranny, right? So it should go back in, make sure you have the splines aligned, and there is no debris in the way, and pop that bitch back in there. Fill the tranny up, and drive it. If theres problems, hit us up!

Well I got the seal from Bumper-to-Bumper cause the dealer didn't have it in stock for about a week. When I went to get it from (b-b) I brought my grinded one and they matched up perfectly (suprised). went to install and it appeared to fit properly the axle also appeared to go in the seal properly. It may be the splines. When I put it in it snapped once but was hanging out about an inch. And thats why it was leaking if it that inch was closed it would stop the leaking.

yeah but no one seems to have the mount kits and I'm short on cash. I found out the tranny is bad. Really bad. When I've drained it 3 times!!! It came out grey with little sparkles in it.
Hoping to ge a mount kit next week (payday).

sells the kits for a b-series drop in an 88-91 civic/crx
kits cost $280 shipped and are much better than hasports IMO. I've been running them for 4 months now...no problems whatsoever, real stiff and motor is not angled. axles are perfectly straight and the crank pulley bolt lined up in its stock location where you can see it through the plastic as if it were an d16a6 sittin in my car!
