cracked transmission cases

cracked transmission cases
Our 91 crx keeps cracking transmission cases sometimes the top, sometimes the bottom. Can't seem to put it back together again and have no idea why or what is happening. It is a 91 crx si tranny with a limited slip and 473 final gears. It seems to break in the same place each time on the shaft that holds the 1/2 shift fork. Everything measures up. some trick to this?

Re: cracked transmission cases
Do you transfer the internals to the new case each time? There may be interference internally and it just breaks the case.
Are you running a swap or a mismatched trans/engine with an adaptor plate?

Re: cracked transmission cases
Thanks, we just did some more measurement and one of the shafts was longer than the same shaft in another transmission. We have no idea why, but it was about 1/32 we did not have a dial indicator long enough, but you could see the difference on a tape measure of all things.
Yes this is a mix of parts and no it is a D16 motor in an SI and the tranny comes out of an SI. It is an ITA race car and is legal so none of those issues, against the rules.
We have had many problems this year with leaks on the racetrack and replaced all the tranny seals as well as the main seal and redid the oil pan. The last 3 times we have put it together we apparently cracked the case, some top, some bottom, but two times before that we put it back together and had leaks, but not from a cracked case different seals failed. the car went through a several year part time rebuild so it was sitting a lot and many people did something on it so no consistency. Comedy of errors, but anyway we think maybe we have fixed it and will know once we glue it back together had to order some snap rings so we have a new one for the top case. thanks for your help
