Should be able to swap in a D16Z6/D16Y8 cylinder head, but also need to cosider the electronics.

The D16A6 is from the pre-1992 right? If it is, is it OBD-0? If so, the Z6 head is OBD-1 and the Y8 head if OBD-2. Definitely need to consider that also.

But, I believe you can get good compression ratios with A6 pistons and a VTEC head such as the D16Z6. Most people swap in the A6 pistons with a Y8 cylinder head and a thinner head gasket to yield GOOD compression numbers.

Do some more Search on here, lots of information.

Actually, the cylinder heads have nothing to do with OBD-anything.

its the intake manifold electronics and the distributor & ECU. Use d16a6 components and you're set, or convert your harness to OBD1 and use P28 ECU

That's what I was saying. The cylinder head electonics. Such as VTEC solenoid, distributor and intake manifold. Those are part of the cylinder head.

Would the head match up easily on th d16z6 block? or would I have to modify stuff on the d16a6 head for it to work?

fact, you can't use a non vtec head and turn the non vtec head into a vtec head!!! and even if there was any way it hell you could it would cost more then what's it's worth, the best bet is to buy a D16y8 head off a 99or 00ex, (higher comp.) and slap it on, run a vtec, diss. and get a p28 ecu and wire the vtec wires, and call it a day. O yeah and mill in 30xxx's for that extra kick

I don't see how it would be hard to put a d16a6 non v-tec head on a d16z6 block. I have a d16z6 motor i just got the a6 headand it was ported so i said hell why not try putting it on, maybe i ill get some gains? i duno that's why i asked yall about it, hoping i would get some insight from people with more motor knowledge.
