Default Question for you S2k lovers!

what do you think about the new sk2's being a 2.2 and redline at 8000 instead of 9?

I like driving my 04 around everyday better but when I'm out full throttle beating the hell out of it I don't feel much differance over the 02.

i test drove both 03 and 04 before making my purchase.. i chose a 03... the reason is quite simple.. i wanted that 9rpm redline, also maybe the bragging rights of having the fastest 2.0L from the factory... and bragging rights on having 120hp per L.... and the difference in power wasn't enough to shift me to the 04.. it's only got like 6-8lbs/tq more then the 03's...which does make it better for everyday driving with traffic.. but ehhhh.. i chose the 03.. not much difference really...i couldn't even tell when i test drove them and i test drove them back to back...

nine is greater than eight. it is one more. it's one higher. when you need that extra bit, you crank it up to nine.

I bought my 01 from a guy buying an 04. He has told me that he likes the handling of the 04 a little better, but he misses the 9k red line...

I race in the SCCA, and I prefer the low end power of the 04. A friend of mine has an02, and the 9K redline is nice, but it is all computer controlled. You can get the 04 to push 9K, but you risk detonation, that is bad thing. I think, now this is only my opinion, so, take it with a grain of salt, that the 04 haddles a little better, and I never quite goto redline anyway. Although, I stay in second gear alot, the extra 1K would be nice, and Comptech make chasis stiffening parts, so, it is a close call. My main reason for buying an 04 was the front bumper. Just think it looks better. Also the rims, but most people replace those anyway.

I agree that the low-end torque would be more useful in Auto X. But, in a previous post, you said you were "thinking about racing in the SCCA", here you say that you do, what gives?

As far as raising the redline in the 04, it can be done. Just because you raised it doesn't automatically make you more prone to detonation. It's only an assumption, but I believe that the stock fuel system can support 1K more RPM in the 04's, but it's only worth doing it if it's making power up there.

You NEVER go to redline? That's nutz! My 04 loves teh red

To the original post, there's nothing wrong with the lower redline to me. I chose an 04 because it appealed more to me. Both aesthetically and mechanically. Whether or not the 2.0L is "better" than the 2.2L is 99.9% opinion. At first glance, I despised the look of the 04, but after looking at them more, and reading about the changes, I am more than please with it. Now all I have to do is get about 12 more months of track time to determine what needs perfected on it to suit my driving style

you'll see more than detonation if you rev '04 to 9krpms without upgrading the internals to the added stress the engine will see.

as far as the original question, the '04 is an improvement over the previous years, that cannot be aruged against. However, people will prefer the older models by what was stated previously, all opinions of course.

When I compare the engines I just look at Hondas choice to give the US the 2.2 and keep the 2.0 for the rest of the world.

Thats because you all whinge about the lack of torque without actually knowing about engineering. Obviously, the majority that post on this board do, but the rest of S2K owners complained with something along the line of 'my ol mustang....' Honda make this car thats a focused drivers car for road and track, but still useable every day. Then it turns out that billy bob thought it turned in to sharp, Dwayne thought the ride was too harsh, and T.J complained about having to rev it so high cos it was noisy. Its bad enough that the S has airbags and other safety devices in it weighing it down, because its not illegal for americans to wear no seatbelt and if Greg has an accident (deciding not to wear his seatbelt), he could successfully sue honda for not doing enough to protect him (Instead of suing Honda for actually letting a dumbass like that buy an S). What i'm getting at is that people want to be seen driving a sports car, with the potential of a sports car, but because they will never use that potential, that want it all soft warm and cuddly. One of my friends over here like going fast, I told him to get a DC2 ITR. He said that whilst the car is excellent, he is going to get a Prelude, because he wants some comfort. Can't get fairer than that. But then the idiots come along and buy the type-r, don't use any of the performance, and complain thats its too noisy...etc etc. I think you should be screened before you buy an S, CTR, or ITR to determine if youre a mincer. If so, then hopefully they will be escorted to the ford dealer.

Personally, I prefer the 04 engine. The torque which the 04 put out will definitely benefit for street driving but for track I don't know how is goes. The thing really concern me is with a lower redline and same gear ratios.....

I believe in other countries car insurance is based on the displacement so this maybe the reason for Honda not selling the 2.2L in other countries. This is my guess

the S is suppossed to be a daily driver / road-track car. Personally, I wouldnt get rid of my 02 for the world. You want more power low end, BUY A SUPERCHARGER! You want more power up top, like me, TURBO!!!!!!!! Problem solved, 9k and still fun as hell!!.

Anyone have a supercharged, or turboed 04? I would assume you produce more power because 2.2 instead of 2.0. Other then that, screw the 04s

The first 5 gears in the 04's are shorter than the previous years. 1st-4th are shortened 4% and 5th was shortened 1% or 2%.

When it's all said and done, I think either year model is a great choice.

Sure having a 9k redline is cool, but not really that big of a deal considering my other car could easily push 12k redline. A high redline isn't much of an advantage, but it is pretty amusing to hear other people shifting one or two times before you do...

I don't like the newer model multi-spoke wheels all that much, prefering the older 5 spoke wheels. Besides that, if I really want that .2 liters, I could always just get it stroked.
