why does Greddy's kit make so little power
I've seen numbers and it can't compare to t3/t4b or t3/t4e 57trim or 60trims..???
is the 18g really that low in efficiency??? Pipings sucks??? manifold eats ****??? what is it about overpriced Greddy???
8psi GSR Greddy = 230ish-240ish whp??? wtf???
8psi GSR on a custom t3/t4e 57trim turbo kit = 270-280whp
any explanations guys...

greddy turbo is small, downpipe is tiny. other used turbo like t3/t4 with bigger a/r and stuff. the peak hp will be high. but the small greddy will spool up fast and have decent power over the big turbo is mid end.
i just sold my greddy and went with custom t3/t04e kit. greddy was fun to drive on the street turbo. spooled fast and bov went off almost every shift...but power is not the same.. bigger turbo...bigger dp..bigger ic...bigger piping...bigger power (of course based on tune but much, much, much more potential!!)

You guys forgot one critical aspect of the Greddy kit. It was designed to be CARB compliant thus limiting its horsepower output.

270-280whp on a GSR?!?! at 8psi thats pretty damn good dont you think?

It doesn't make a ton of power but it is a great stock engine turbo esp for the d series. With a new DP and some tuning it can see around 230whp on the d series possibly more but that is pretty close to the limit.
yea, greddy make a carb legal turbo upgrade kit, its a worry free kit that adds a good amount of power tuned without worry of internals at recommended psi.
while other kits market themselves as full race kits, or off road use kits.
like everyone was saying greddy turbo = small, spools faster, good response, good daily driver.
buddy of mine had the greddy kit on his GSR, it was pretty quick, he soon got a full race manifold, turbonetics t3/t4, and 3" dp, his numbers bumped up 20-30whp on the whole rpm range at the same psi. hes now pushing 324whp 229trq tuned with a ls/vtec setup.

Its not a kit put together for high horse power. 1. is they wanted it to be carb compliant and 2. is the fact that they wanted it to be a streetable kit. It has to do alot about turbo sizing and the efficiency on the car. Greddy put alot of research into thier turbo kits so I think they meant to do what the kit is putting out.
Bottom line you if you know about turbo kits than building your own is better and can be cheaper sometimes. If you don't know you **** than buy a greddy and learn about turbo basics, then you can upgrade as you go. Its like a starter turbo kit. Also if you want crazy horse power and low track times than don't buy the Greddy kit.

Greddy kits come with 310cc which max out at 230ish HP.
Custom kits typically use 550cc that max out at around 375 hp without a FPR. Also, with a custom kit you get the best for each part.

I got a used greddy turbo and manifold on my D. The rest is custom and it makes great street power. Its not a track turbo ;-P.
I guess its the rice in my but I blow off in every shift and boost builts up in a slit second.
The best part about the greddy, is that you get to keep your AC with 100+ degree and high humidity its pretty much required....
