Default new problems have arisen (clutch question)

so i fnally get a good 90% of my **** together for this swap. just picked up the intake mani today, got my pistons yesterday... prolly gonna buy 2point6's injectors when he finishes testing...

then tonight we took my dads crank and rods out of his h23 (cracked head, good block) and in the process my mechanic says that someone (either me or my dad) will have to buy a new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.

so since my dad would prolly want OEM parts that are most likely more expensive than aftermarket, we decide that ill be needing a new clutch soon anyway with my newly aquired stroker power.

so i go back to the site i got the pistons from and i look at their clutch stuff and i found this:

now my questions are... in the pic shown above, is that circular "toothy" looking thing the pressure plate? and is that little circle thing on the bottom left the throwout bearing?

also is Exedy a good clutch company? and would a 3-puck clutch be too much for an everyday street car?

and is $390 (+ shipping) a good price for all that?

dont hate me... im new to the tranny stuff lol

edit: they also have an ACT heavy duty clutch kit that has a heavy duty pressure plate with an organic disc... for $375 (+ shipping) which one would set would you get for an everyday car and why?

You are correct about what each thing is. My cousin has an Exedy Race clutch in his teg and it engages very nicely. Depending on how much power you are putting down I would go with the ACT personaly.

Centerforce (clutch masters cheap line)

there is no reason for you to need a 3 puck clutch. you will just end up tearing it to shreads in a few months time.

personally i have the ACT XDSS (extreem duty pressure plate, street / strip disk)

it is VERY tight. i got that so that i could actually put a 100 shot to the ground without destroying my tranny. you will not need anything like that im sure.

the ACT HDSS (heavy duty) should do you just fine. guy i work with has a blown S2k at 310 RWHP and uses that clutch. it takes it like a champ.

either exceedy or ACT and you wont go wrong. but get a full faced disk. People that need 3,4 and 6 pucks are people like anthony, sam and many other heavily boosted guys.

as far as it goes in the pic top to bottom, left then right.

Pressure Plate
allignment tool
pilot bearing (goes in the flywheel)
throwout bearing
clutch disk

thanks for breakin it down for me

now the question is... should i go ahead and get a flywheel too? like is it one of those things where if i do one then i should just do the other so i dont have to take it all apart twice kinda things? (ie: buying springs but not shocks... then taking the suspension apart two different times)

if so... what flywheel is good? on http://www.jhpusa.com they only have the ACT prolite flywheel listed for $290 is that a good one for a good price?

you can if you want to. i did and so do most. its just that tranny work is either extreemly expensive or if you do it yourself (i would hope so) an extreemly big pain in the ***. but the experiance is priceless.

i purchased the Fidanza 12 lb flywheel.

lighter weight means easier to spool up, easier to drop out of VTEC when shifting (i have never had a problem with it), better power transfer to the ground.

alluminum ones are easier to warp.

you just have to shop around and decide which one you want. i went for a happy medium at 12 lbs.

personally i would get anything over aluminum. but thats just me. i havent heard much about chromoly that i know of. if it ever came up in conversation i didnt pay attention to what that particular flywheel was made of.

stock isnt bad. its just heavy. mine weighed in at 27 lbs. i have seen other stockers weigh in at 18 lbs. maybe it had been turned once already, we couldnt tell.
