gsr and itr alternators interchangable?
The reason i am asking is because the gsr has a nippon denso and the itr had a mitsubishi, which surprised me. I thought the ITR would be nippon denso too. They put out the same amps, but there is $140 price difference in favor of the gsr. Could they mount differently? Anyone have one on their ITR? If so, did you need to modify anything?
I believe there is a slight difference in mounting bolts. I'd have to double check at work tomorrow. But the alternator itself should be interchangeable.

I'll get back to you on that. PM me a price. Right now I am just trying to make sure it's going to work. This is my only car and I work 6 days a week, so it can't be down long. Preferably a one day project, any longer than that and I will be stuck driving a blazing fast stock base model Cavalier!

wow that makes a lot of sense
Yes, the physical alternators are innerchangeable.
Here is a JDM ITR alternator that I just took off a JDM motor... made by denso.
I tried to put it on a 98 non-denso USDM ITR but the pulleys were different.
I just ended up using a 2000 crv alternator instead because thats what I had laying around.
I would buy a used alternator for cheap. $50 dollars shipped VS $$$$

So let me get this straight....
JDM ITR = denso
USDM ITR = mitsubishi
I have the JDM ITR so I should have a denso on it, which is the same as the gsr.....
hmmm..... wonder why they changed alternators from JDM to USDM.....

you still can't use it.
While I was doing my motor swap I noticed the belt on my jdm itr was a little scratched up so i tried to swap belts from my gsr motor I had just taken out. The result was the gsr belt was a little to big for the jdm itr motor.

Also check that the plug on the alternator matches your wire harness -- they aren't all the same.
I had a 'mystery alternator' that came with my motor die on me. Replacement b-series alternators either didn't line up properly, didn't fit the top bracket or bolt that I had, or the plug didn't line up.
What I wound up doing was stacking the replacement alternator on top of the old alternator, and ran pencils through the top and bottom mounting holes of both alternators -- when they lined up, and the pulleys lined up, and the plugs matched, I had found a match.

yes, i have
I have the old USDM 98 alternator still if you want it, works fine, I just have it because i was taking a supercharger kit off and I needed a stock alternator pulley for a USDM ITR(which I didnt have).
He is correct though, I simply used a GSR belt instead of a P73 belt.
about what the last guy is saying... he might be thinking D series and obd-1 and obd-2

Also depends if you have a US, Japanese, or Canadian motor / alternator.
My friend's SiR used a oval plug, my ITR alternator used a square plug.
Both were OBD-II alternators.
