shot peened rods
whats up. Im gonna be redoing my bottom end in a few months and i was wondering what does it mean when u shot peened rods?
Im gonna put in a set of ITR pistons in my 97 LS. The LS rods will work fine right? Im gonna get new rod bearings, head gasket and ARP rod bolts when i do the install.
Honing the block is neccesary right?

Shot peening is a process where the rod or whatever is blasted with small shots, I believe they're glass. What that does is smooths out the surface so that small surface irregularities don't become cracks under high stress.
LS rods will work with ITR pistons.
Honing the block should be done. This breaks the glaze left by the old rings and provides a fresh cylinder wall surface to help the new rings seat.

No, it's not necessary at all. Especially if you're still N/A. It's nice for bragging rights, whatever that's worth to you. You're better off getting a better rod than shot peening the OEM one, IMO. But then again, you won't need it in N/A form.

Neccessary ? Well...that's a strong word. It would probably be cheap insurance for you. But then again, it all depends on what you're power goal is out of this engine. You can have them lightened and shot peened for relatively cheap.
