Is there special feautures on a welder I should be looking for?
Is the wire really expensive? Different sizes for different jobs?
Basic cost for a noob for a unit?
Good brand names
Thanks so far

iw ould say get a basic wire welder from home depot and start there. cheaper then a mig set up and good for what you want.
MIG is cheap.... definately easy to use... 2lb wire spool here in CDN is $11. I"ve got a small lincolin MIG and a 275 model TIG. Both work great. The mig uses arg/o2 mix and the tig uses straight ARG. Hard to say how long each tank/spool will last for everyone, I do a ton of welding. but yeah, a good first welder is a lincoln 135 series
