Hi guys,

I am going to be putting together my motor today in preparation for my swap. If time permits, I may even do the actual swap.

I just have to buy some coolant, and MTF and I'll be set. I have about a quart and a half of Redline MTL laying around from my last car. Can I use this instead of Honda MTF? The NAPA that is right down the street stocks a lot of Redline stuff, and I could just get 1 more quart of Redline MTL, and that will be enough for me. I'd rather use my MTL, then buying 3 quarts of Honda MTF. (The Redline MTL I have is 70W80)

EDIT: and not sure if it matters but my tranny is a YS1 LS cable tranny. And I'll only be using it for a year until I get a ITR hydro tranny.

GM syncromesh friction modified works good i hear.

 

ive only used 10w30 99cent motor oil, in every cable tranny honda ive done.

works perfect.

 

forgot to mention that I'm just looking for a cheap alternative. It's only 2 days to payday, so between now and then I'll only have a few hundred bucks that I might have to use for emergency taxi cab rides. So I'll be using my base exchange (I'm in the military) credit card, which is only good for purchsing at the base exchange. So in short it has to be something that I can find at my Base Exchange, which has a worst selection of oil then the local Autozone.

10W30 motor oil sounds good, I actually have 12 quarts of it laying here. I was gonna fill up the motor, crank it up drive it a few times around the block, then change the oil again.

Redline oil is teh suck! I'd run 10-30 valvoline before I ran that **** in my tranny. I used it, and drained it about 2000mi later. I like GM Synchromesh.

 

if you can get some good quality synthetic oil for your tranny and make sure you fill it up completly..dont try to do burnouts and it should last a long time..good luck

 

I have read that the Redline is too slippery for Honda transmissions. You actually need a little friction in there, but the Redline doesn't give you enough so you grind a lot.

 

really?.. i always thought redline was perfect for hondas since you guys rev so high.. hmm

 

redline is crap, there is no reason to run anything other than 10w30. even the Factory service manual specifies 10w30 on the cable trans.
