same metal type, different grades... how do you choose cover gas/wire?
would different grades of say stainless steel require different cover gas and or feed wire? or is the grade irrelavent?
can anyone share good info on selecting proper gas and wire for any givin application?
Thanks!

Gas should always be pure argon
ALways use a welding rod that is a grade higher then the material your welding
Examples
304 to 304 = 308
321 to 304 = 308
321 to 321 = 347

cool, but what about the people on other threads talking about mixing argon with c02 for stainless?
strait argon works anyway?
thanks for the good info to help a beginner out

for TIG welding you want to use pure argon and with MIG you can get away with using a 25/75 mix on lower grades of stainless
